I have an FJ Cruiser, now already 13 years old (bought couple of years ago, and finished paying loan) and somehow still hold its value quite well (in Borneo).
Now with petrol subsidy removal, I am considering letting go of the car for a more fuel efficient and also comfortable suv.

However, a bit berat hati cause the FJ is quite a special car. It has been the smoothest engine 4.0v6 that I have ever used. That said, roadtax and insurance in total is a lot of money. Every month need to save up about RM300-400 just to pay off these bills when time comes.

While I can afford the car, I'm just wondering if it is a better choice to sell and buy a 'relatively new' used car like XC40. Transfer cost of FJ roadtax to pay XC40 instalment.

What is your advice?

Keep it if you can afford to.

Sell it if you can't.

Entirely up to you whether you value the experience of driving it, or you're already tired of it.

Sum up both options road tax + insurance (+ loan interest), don't think you're saving a lot. Assumption with the XC40 is a new car. Still need to pay for scheduled service at dealership, all the wear and tear maintenance. Though you can save some fuel that's for sure.

But want to calculate everything, it can get quite extensive.

Imo, still up to what kind of experience you want, the monetary value should be secondary for what you can afford.

I love fj cruiser, it just like a hummer but the downside is the yearly road tax which cost a bomb

If you can afford it and it isn’t giving you problems, keep it.
The FJ is already a legend.

It all boils down to how much you like your FJ Cruiser, unless you feel like switching to another car for a new experience cool2.gif
