Got this problematic staff. I just joined this new co, this staff have been clinging on to the system, nobody else knows how to do it. I am this staff's so called supervisor. The trouble is, 60% of my job is conducted by this fella. The fella conduct meetings without me, and when I approach for update, gives me layman unsatisfactory answers. Co dare not take action, my boss is chicken, so HR can't take action. Damn I want to quit, looking for job now. Ridiculous, no wonder this co is so screwed up. I put everything black n white on that staff, then that fella went ballistics. Co don't even bother to take action. USeless. |

Move on if the workplace isnt willing to back you up. Keep calm and handle it professionally so it doesnt affect your own reputation.

Yes, I think you should really resign because from what you wrote, you are saying the guy is the only person in the company that know how to use the system? And he can do 60% of your job including conducting meeting, all without your supervision?
Sound like he should be the manager of the company, managing everyone, including you instead of you supervising him. You can't do anything beside just open a topic on public forum to rant? Better quit as soon as possible, to not jeorpardize your CV. |

This kind of toxic environment, nothing you as an individual can help or change. If boss dont care about knowledge transfer or have proper sop to help now joiner join, cant do much.
What happen to the person that you replace? Same fate cannot tahan? Better keep looking, since you havent confirm notice period is not long. And maybe can exclude this company from resume The staff wants your job. Simple This post has been edited by forgotoldlogin: Dec 14 2024, 05:00 PM |

since he is the only one in the company know the system and can conduct 60% of your job which is the supervisor job.
so i think the company should promote him as supervisor and not hiring you to supervise him. |

Sounds like you're hired for a position that was originally and rightfully has gone to him, the company just wants someone (you) to deal with him.
Better start looking for some other places and leave this hell-hole |

First of all, "staff" is a group of employees, like office staff or marketing staff.
If you meant one particular employee, you can identify him by his job title, like hr assistant or salesman. If the problem is from a singular employee, you can - clarify with him (and others) what are his job functions and his responsibilities. - who (if any) are reporting directly to him. - check his annual leaves. Ask him to clear his annual leaves. - ask him to pass part of his job functions to others while he is on leave. - hand him warning letters if he fails to follow your requests and instructions. - suspend him 1 or 2 weeks without pay after numerous warning letters. And finally ask him to resign else you give him his walking letter. |

On second thoughts, don't ask or give chance for him to resign. Stick to proper hr procedures and work with hr to hand him termination letter after a series of warning letters.

First, he is not your staff. he is your boss's staff. you are his colleague.
Who are you to call your boss a chicken? Chicken that pay you salary? You are taking thing for granted. You are not capable. Quit your job or stop whining |

He doesn't see you as supervisor as he can pretty much run the team without you
But fear not, there has to be a reason your boss hire you instead of promoting him Be humble and absorb his knowledge, so that you are not dependable to him Have a word with your boss to find out what stop him from promoting that guy and fill the void |
