The plane had a tail strike in year 1980. The tail was damaged. Then, the plane had been sent to repair.

What had repairmen had done:

1. The repair works to the damage were not done according to the manual.
2. The doubler used to fix the damage was too small. It should be larger.
3. The damage to the plane tail section was also covered, caused other maintenance workers unable to detect.
4. Tell lies in the repair log book. Even though the repair wasn't done correctly, in the log book, they wrote the repair was done according to the procedures.

The improper repair caused metal fatigue. More and more cracks occurred.

22 years later, on 25 May 2002, the plane broke up in flight, killed 225 people on board. No survivor.
