Two passengers on the same booking were automatically assigned seats a row apart at mobile app check-in, despite there being dozens of empty seats where we could have been seated next to each other. I had to pay RM40 to move my partner's seat allocation to the already empty seat next to mine.

i bought 4 selected seats
they reschedule their flights
and all your seats got reset-ed and seat purchase charges still apply
when you want to make the change, you get to talk to ms AVA by queuing for 2 hours with 0 solutions offered.
when you want to refund after, there's just no way to contact them

how the regulation body allows such disgusting scenes to repeat over and over again is blasphemy.

I have avoid flying with AA/AAX whenever possible unless I'm with a group of friends who prefer AA...

Most airlines that's not scummy like tony air will still assign same booking seats together when possible. Cibai tony will purposely seat you away from each other. Big difference.

I always take Batik rather than AA. AA are famous for all this nickel and dime tactics. I loathe their way of doing business. Don't care how cheap it is.

when I buy the ticket online, and I wanna choose the seat, I need to pay. I checkout without choosing the seat. ain't nobody will pay for seat selection.
but when I wanna check in online to get boarding pass, I can choose the seat for free.
is this the norm for Batik?

AA has been doing this for years. purposely programme the "automatic" seat allocation on a single booking to separated out the group. AND there is NO option to free chose at check in (unlike MH and OD), "automatically" assigned to be separated.

Hoping many will give up and pay to sit together.

like MH, OD at check in, you can chose your seats, whatever is left not prebooked.

I have come to the conclusion if the fare difference is less than 20%, go with FSA.

Many times, you will be surprised MH may be cheaper than AA, after you have added in the check in and meals.

Low cost airlines in Europe does this all the time. To be honest I don't care if i cannot sit beside my wife for 3 hrs. I spend a lot of time with her anyway. Not worth the fee. Children always get to sit with a parent anyway.

Funny AA assigned me & my mom side-by-side, ticket bought 6 mths apart, separate booking, checked-in done separately too.

so far on AA, check in online with my partner and never encountered being assigned seats apart. the most is separated by aisle and that was long time ago. i'd say more than 9 out of 10 times assigned seat togehter and so far always get window and centre seats assigned together.

2024 still got ppl want to gamble on AA.. kek

Premium Airlines also start do the same. You wan early seat selection must pay for it or wait until checked in only can select for free but good spot will be selected by pay customer.

MAS has never done that to me. At check-in can select seats together for free.

I have flown AA before, but alone only. Previous (much better) experience with my partner was Batik - again can select seats together free at check-in if not already allocated together.

Batik air I call their hotline, within few minutes got people answer and solve my problem. God damn impressed.

yes you could argue cheap services come with their drawbacks, but basic paid services being denied delivery is just broken business practice and lawfully wrong.
AA antiques and blatant disregard are not new and yet nothing has been done over decades, yet the governing body doing nothing, just enjoying the bonus given by madaniman.

cheaper value - i'd tolerate auntie stewardess, squeaky seats, longer queues etc. but just downright cheating my money? (even though the amount is negligible, the inconvenience caused is a hassle) no no... that's just not right.
