QUOTE(river.sand @ Dec 1 2024, 02:07 PM) Why not? In the US, every state collects its own income tax and sales tax. But for simpler implementation, Federal can collect on behalf of the states. State tax cannot implemented here due to federal constitution restriction on collecting tax for state.

https://belanjawan.mof.gov.my/pdf/belanjawa...kutuan_2025.pdfCivil servants pensions, all paid by federal government, currently it stands at 37 billion in 2025. Civil servants salaries, all paid by federal government (unable to determine due to overlap, lets say 30 billion exclude those spent in Health care and Education). Health care and Education budget (110 billions), all paid by federal government. Interest payment for existing debts, all paid by federal government (55 billions). After all these biggies, how much money is left for federal government to pay to each state? Total expenditure is 335 billions, and these biggest spending already cover almost 70% of it. Maybe federal government can say subsidies for petrol remains for all, but each state can decide how much they want to take back from the subsidies, and then the savings will be given to the state government. Essentially each state decides how much petrol subsidies they want to provide, if they say no subsidies then all the subsidies money which would have been spent in that state will be given to the state. QUOTE(Jazted @ Dec 1 2024, 01:46 PM) Even if every state asking the same, Selangor, Penang, Johor and Sarawak will still be higher "Johor provides about RM48 billion (S$13.8 billion) in tax revenue to the federal government, but only receives RM1.4 billion in return through the annual budget. How are we supposed to take care of our people? That’s why we have bad roads and poor education and health facilities,” he said" https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/se-asia/j...onomic-ambitionAfter get more $$$ there is no guarantee that roads & hospitals will be improved.

QUOTE(Rorschach85 @ Dec 1 2024, 06:12 PM) That 2 state is oil producing state brother.. Not really. The oil rigs are beyond the two states water territories (3 nautical miles) which as per stated in the 1969 Emergency Ordinance.

QUOTE(Legozz @ Dec 1 2024, 01:12 PM) If every state asks for the same thing, Johor will still remain poor because it receives a disproportionately higher amount from the federal budget as well. What Johor gave in tax, the federal government returned two-fold from states like Penang, Sarawak. it started with Selangor...Penang...Sabah lel memang pon tak balance distribution Putrajaya KL get the most but left ikan bilis to these states Especially the highest TAX contribution from Penang

QUOTE(beyond @ Dec 1 2024, 01:28 PM) Everybody is demanding x amount of %. Good. The federal capital suck all tax from every states, only develop KL at the expense of most other states. Whilst KL never ending build more elevated roads and infrastructures, most states remain unchanged from decade ago.
