Hi all,

I've narrowed down my choices to either those two

Leaning more towards the X5, coz it's the cheapest way to get an M54 3.0.

But the sportiness of the E39 is calling. However for my budget can only get a 2.5 e39.

Budget is a hard 20K for car purchase.

Wear and tear, parts change and restoration will come slowly over the next months.
But the 20K should give me a good (really good) base to work from.

So which way would you lean?

Or if got any other options (doesn't have to be bimmer) let me know

Just my 2 sen’s worth.

With only 20k available for a car purchase, I’d keep the money and drive whatever I own now.

Got any extra money or not? Besides from the 20k car, you need at least prepare another 15~20k in case of your BMW got any major repairs. Usually people want to sell will not do much maintenance on their rides already.

Extra money is not an issue. I have 20k for the car and will spend to do up over the next few months.

My question is which way would you lean? X5 or e39

I’ve seen those.

Interesting but above my budget. I will buy and fix up.

I just don’t want to plonk 40k at one go

E39 gets a vote from me, the X5 design proportion doesn't feels right to me personally

Fun fact the early E53 X5 actually share a lot of features as Range Rover L322 model.
In the 90's BMW got share in land rover thus the born of X5.

Easy said it is a mix of Range Rover & E39 engine and electronics at that era. icon_idea.gif
