JOHOR BAHRU: Pelaksanaan Projek Lebuh Raya West Coast Expressway (WCE) dari Banting, Selangor ke Gelang Patah, Johor bakal menyokong pertumbuhan ekonomi negeri ini khususnya di kawasan Zon Perdagangan Bebas (FCZ).

Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Pelaburan, Perdagangan, Hal Ehwal Pengguna dan Sumber Manusia Johor Lee Ting Han, berkata antara inisiatif ekonomi yang bakal menerima kesan positif langsung daripada pembinaan lebuh raya ini adalah Zon Ekonomi Khas Johor-Singapura (JS-SEZ) dan Zon Kewangan Khas Forest City (Forest City SFZ).


"Impak positif projek ini adalah peningkatan pelaburan dan aktiviti perdagangan di kawasan perindustrian dan komersial sepanjang laluan WCE.

"WCE juga akan memudahkan akses antara dua pelabuhan utama negara iaitu Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas di Johor dan Pelabuhan Klang di Selangor," katanya.


Ting Han berkata lebuh raya berkenaan turut memudahkan aliran pengangkutan barangan dan mempercepatkan rantaian bekalan, sekali gus menarik lebih banyak pelabur domestik dan asing dalam sektor logistik dan pembuatan.

Ketika pembentangan Belanjawan 2025 pada 18 Oktober lalu, Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim mengumumkan Projek Lebuh Raya WCE Banting-Gelang Patah yang mengguna pakai pendekatan Kerjasama Awam Swasta (PPP) akan diberi keutamaan pada tahun depan.

Selain WCE, projek lain yang akan turut menggunakan pendekatan PPP adalah pembinaan Hospital Sultanah Aminah 2 di Johor serta Lebuhraya Bertingkat Juru dan Sungai Dua, Pulau Pinang.

Sementara itu, Presiden Persatuan Pengusaha Lori Johor (JTA) Chai Pei Yoon, berkata WCE bakal meningkatkan kecekapan logistik dan mengurangkan kesesakan lalu lintas antara ibu negara ke selatan tanah air.

Beliau berkata projek tersebut juga dijangka dapat meningkatkan kerjasama sektor logistik antara Malaysia dan Singapura, sekali gus merancakkan lagi aktiviti perdagangan antara kedua-dua negara jiran itu.

"JTA berharap kerajaan akan mengambil kira keperluan industri logistik dalam pelaksanaan projek ini bagi memastikan kelancaran infrastruktur yang bakal memberi manfaat kepada pengangkutan barang dan ekonomi negara.

"Sehubungan itu, kami yakin projek WCE bakal memberi manfaat jangka panjang kepada sektor logistik dan ekonomi negara," kata Chai.

Ketika ini satu-satunya lebuh raya yang menghubungkan Johor ke Lembah Klang bagi pengangkutan darat seperti lori, bas, kereta dan motosikal adalah Lebuhraya Utara Selatan (PLUS) yang mula dibuka sejak tahun 1994.

not sure why need this extension since the existing NSE towards south is already close to the west coast of peninsula.

Northern part of NSE can understand that it passed through the central part of Perak, hence, need the WCE covering different parts of the west coast.

but seriously would prefer the gov to build another highway or make the existing NSE 3 lanes each side at least for the path from Taiping till Batu Kawan.

WCE is not yet completed - Changkat Jering to Sitiawan section only completed. Rest partially.
And it has been almost 10 years already!
WCE Banting - Gelang Patah? Another 50 yrs?
TS donno still exist or not by then?

I don't understand the relationship between Forest City and the highway in Selangor or KL or Perak.

Forest city always linked with China and Singapore only.

This stretch is old trunk road (though upgraded). Not gonna be proper expressway, with divider in the middle of the road.

Your last time is what year?

As far as I remember back in 80s already can travel banting-dengkil-bangi-kajang lah. Where got KL in equation?

Banting Dengkil Puchong is my playground back in the 80s and 90s.

Certain parts of WCE is not full expressway. Uneven roads and many junctions.

2 stretches actually. 1 is ijok-tg karang and 2nd is skve-klang part. Other sections all are open and operational already.

There will be an elevated way from Tg Karang Petronas connecting directly to LATAR. Progress is super slow though.

Look where route 5 is and the towns it passes. WCE roughly follows route 5 and would try to go around the bigger towns like Kuala Selangor and Tg. Karang.

Extension from Banting southward would be towards Sepang, Lukut, PD, Masjid Tanah, Klebang, and connecting to AMJ towards Muar.

Muar southwards to Batu Pahat and Pontian, along route 5.

Why can't go just expand existing NSE pagoh to senai from 4 to 6/8 lanes carriageway. That's a proper expressway to begin with
