Now with so many vss focusing on people in their late 40s and 50s. What do you do to continue earning? It seems like nowadays barely anyone is lucky enough to work till retirement. I know my generation mostly won't get to work until retire unless play politic hard.

I would say ages really doesn't matter; it actually depends on your skillset and experience also which field you join.
Speaking of IT field, it still required this age range from 40 to 50 to fill up the senior, lead, manager, senior manager, architect or even head of department
But i not sure age after 50 will be less opportunity. Conclusion just try your best to secure a job before reaching 50. It just my humble thought.
Again, never say die just get up and try. Even doing own business the stress and the risk level is humongous !!!!

I think folks should learn & practice FIRE principles so that they can be ready for rainy days
