Travel firm fined for letting Chinese tourists wave flags while singing in performance

The People’s Committee of Nha Trang City in Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam announced on Monday that it had imposed multiple administrative penalties on a travel company after that firm let hundreds of Chinese tourists wave Chinese national flags while singing during a recent event in the coastal city.

Hoang Thanh Nha Trang Tourism Service Trading Company Limited, located in Phuoc Long Ward, Nha Trang, was fined a total of VND 51.5 million (US$2,023) for four administrative violations.

These violations include failing to include all required contents in the travel contract and tour program, employing tour guides without proper labor contracts or affiliation with recognized tourism organizations, and failing to manage tourists according to the agreed tour program.

Previously, several social media clips surfaced of numerous foreigners waving Chinese national flags and singing at Ana Marina Nha Trang, a marina on Nguyen Co Thach Street in Nha Trang City.

Alerted to this occurrence, the Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism promptly formed a team to investigate the case.

According to the inspection report, Hoang Thanh Nha Trang Company hired an agency to organize a performance event for a Chinese tourist group at the swimming pool stage of Ana Marina Nha Trang from 5:45 pm to 7:00 pm on June 7.

On June 13, the People’s Committee of Khanh Hoa Province issued an official directive instructing the provincial Department of Tourism and the Department of Culture and Sports to guide resort service providers and event organizers in the area to strictly adhere to legal regulations when arranging events and artistic performances involving national flags, symbols, and emblems of foreign countries for international tourists.

NEW DELHI: The incident took place on Thursday morning at about 8 am. About six Malaysian women tourists accompanied by an Indian entered Taj. Later, a video went viral in which these women were seen holding their national flag on the pathway near the central tank, reports Hindustan Times.

In violation of norms, later, on being questioned, the six Malaysian women expressed ignorance about restrictions on such things at Taj and were allowed to go after submitting a written apology.

There is a restriction on promotional, commercial and canvassing activities on Taj Mahal premises. And waving your country's flag is among the activities that is not allowed.

"About six Malaysian women tourists accompanied by an Indian entered Taj. Later, a video went viral in which these women were seen holding their national flag on the pathway near the central tank,” said Prince Vajpayee, senior conservation assistant, Archaeological Survey of India, according to the report that appeared in Hindustan Times.

“They got themselves photographed while holding the flag. On being questioned, they said they did not know about restrictions on canvassing or promotional activities at Taj Mahal,” he said .

“They tendered a written apology and were allowed to go. The Indian accompanying them also expressed ignorance about the norms at Taj,” said Vajpayee.

The popularity of Taj Mahal often lures the visitors to canvas or promote things with Taj in the background. So, there is a restriction on promotional, commercial and canvassing activities on Taj Mahal premises.
