To be fair, a lot of Malaysians are really not matured even until they reach early 20s.

Most are only matured when they reach late 20s and early 30s.

So, it's not really unbelievable if she led a very sheltered life until she goes overseas to study.

Sheltered here does not mean she don't know how to take care of herself but it's the mentality and maturity.

A lot of people here also forget that pregnancy will cause a person's hormones to go haywire especially cortisol or some doctors call stress hormones.

Most pregnant ladies have such problems before and after giving birth.

Post partum depression is really a scary thing. That's why we sometimes see cases of newly given birth ladies killing their own babies.

That is why most cultures have post-delivery month where the mother is taken care off and they don't have to fully take care of their babies.

I am not saying she's having post-partum depression since I am not there, but the possibility is there.

So, even though she is charged, she might not go to jail as it could be a genuine case of temporary insanity.

The doctors and psychologist will know.

There is a possibility of temporary insanity due to post-partum depression.

She might not need to go to jail if her defending lawyer is able to proof it.

It will really depend on the doctors and psychologist treating her.

A bit harsh, life sentence with 17 years before possibility of parole. Any chance of appeal?

Depends on whether her family can afford to get a lawyer to appeal

Even with appeals, it will take years and they really have to prove temporary insanity
