If she did this in Malaysia you'd be sympathetic somewhat since women in her position face extreme prejudice by society.

The bed of a woman accused of murdering her new-born baby was found covered in blood by a friend, a jury has heard.

Jia Xin Teo, 22, is charged with killing her baby in the university room she was staying in, in Raglan Street, Coventry in March.

A friend of hers told her trial at Warwick Crown Court that MsTeo said she was having a severe period, when actually she might have recently given birth.

Ms Teo, who was a student in the city at the time, denies murder.

Sitting on Tuesday, the jury heard from a university friend, who said she became worried after receiving a picture of Ms Teo in which she looked "pale".

She told the court she ordered some food and took it to the defendant's room, in The Cycle Works student accommodation, where they were both staying.

The jury heard however, that Ms Teo told her not to enter room because she was having a heavy period.

The witness said that she then left the food outside before returning later to check on the defendant's condition.

Entering the room through an unlocked door, she said she saw a "blood clot" on the floor as well as a "mountain" of bloody tissues.

The bottom of the bed was "covered in blood", she told the court, but Ms Teo was in her en-suite bathroom.

After talking to Ms Teo through the door, the witness went down to reception and asked for help.

The court heard she was followed upstairs by a receptionist, who decided to call an ambulance.

Paramedics attended, but left when Ms Teo refused medical care. After becoming weaker however, the defendant was taken to hospital in a taxi.

The court has previously heard that the baby's body was found two days later, inside a suitcase in the accommodation block.

The trial continues.

It seems like she panicked; perhaps her family is very strict, which might have influenced her reaction. That said, it doesn’t excuse her actions
