Which means you havent heard the glory of the Giacchino Medal of Honor scores. Sure, its not very original style-wise, but it imitates the very best, John Williams in late 1980s action mode! And never, EVER have I heard such a distinctive and complex style being imitated to the point its nearly impossible to say JW didnt write it. You'd have to be a hardcore fan of JW to notice that Giacchino uses cyclic strings (especially the cellos) a bit more than Williams would. And yes, its a properly recorded score with a 65 piece orchestra, not some synth shit.Other great western videogame scores include Mafia, most of Jeremy Soule's work (TA, KOTOR, KOTOR II, Elder Scrolls III and IV, the Potter games) and the oft overlooked score to The Movies by Daniel Pemberton.
Uematsu has a knack for themes. He also uses a crappy old outdated synth (at least up to FFX afaik). Juz compare the sound quality of the Uematsu tracks on that score to the other composers' work. The difference is like night and day.
