QUOTE(Pikichu @ Oct 15 2024, 11:10 AM) Suggest to install a layer of insulation under tile roof, above ceiling and enable air flow for heat to escape ceiling. one of my houses has layer of insulation (developer last time put it). but i wonder which one better? clay tiles or put insulation? how much does insulation costs? QUOTE(Pikichu @ Oct 15 2024, 11:17 AM) if you insulate cement roof where heat has no path to escape then you can enjoy warmth. Err Msia here, we want to make house as cooling as possible.you may want to research online on what works best, then acquire quotes around your area. TQ for the input at WTA Chest pain. No worries, glad to help This post has been edited by hoonanoo: Oct 15 2024, 11:20 AM |

QUOTE(Iceman74 @ Oct 16 2024, 11:15 AM) the cost varies a lot depending on the installer. The issue with cement tiles is that they are very hot. Me didn't ask about using clay tiles. Me got quoted from 30k(reputable installer) to normal installer(roughly more than 10k) excluding extra insulation sheet (need add few k depending quality) recently me didn't do it now as my roof tiles still ok( 20+ years only) but look very not nice. Thinking paint or replace it. Was advice by friends, if ok, don't risk it. Just change and repair those broken tiles will do, roof tiles should withstand at least, if not more than 30 years. Experience and workmanship are very important. He saw many change roof tiles but leaking much worse. His explanation Our wooded roof truss after so many years with the weight on it, will bend/deformed to a certain way. Experience installers need to compensate those things in order for future leaking during installation or change the whole roof truss to steel (he prefers this method to settle all problem associated with old wooden roof truss. I don't see changing to clay tiles justify the extra cost, but it does look nicer and without worry of color distortion comparing with cement type. For me, I would invest in good insulation than clay tiles. It does provide 2nd layer of protection but will have other set of problems. The major problem about adding insulation is detecting the actual leaking location and after many years, it will decay. For eg, PJ houses are very expensive but they are mostly hot, due to cement tiles. Thats why I am considering if I were to purchase one, I may change te tiles. |

QUOTE(Pikichu @ Oct 19 2024, 02:17 PM) https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=5390606 Ah yes, one of my houses has this insulation installation. The installation method may only withstand for a few years. Nonetheless, there is a market for the material in MY. the developer did it. the house is quite cooling. |
