I'm still working lol. Excluding all the expenses he mentioned just means listing down food and groceries expenses. I only eat 2 meals a day (practicing Intermittent Fasting), one big meal for lunch at work, and come back a small oatmeal dinner. No other spending, I also seldom go out to splurge, maybe once a month only. Excluding fixed expenses is RM 800/month, including fixed expenses (insurance, internet, maintenance fees) would be RM 2k/month. It's not that difficult, I don't understand how one can spend till RM 1.5k on food and groceries alone  whistling.gif

Definitely doable, my parents spend only RM2k-ish per month for their retirement life for 2 person.
They don't go out much (old, joints hurt), just hanging out with the other retiree neighbors, so not much else to spend on other than groceries.

The groceries are not fully cheapo kind either, once in a while buy 2kg ribs or some premium cut for cooking, full seafood course for a week, durian takeouts, etc.
Granted old people digestion la so not too much / too adventurous. Also learning to stretch your ringgit is a boon.

I can't go below RM1.5K, likely the groceries are main differences

Yeah but the point is why do people budget >5k per month just for groceries?

You probably don't go out to eat as much, don't even eat that much in general either for that matter at that age.
My parents even don't want to travel to anywhere that uses airplane anymore, they said the whole transit via airport thing is too exhausting at their age.
Doesn't really cost much if you're just chilling, gardening at home, etc.

Sidetrack a bit..

As an athletic still participating in races, nutrition is crucial even in old age. Eg power gels, protein shakes.

Suggest your parents ensure some form of anaerobic activity

My dad still OK, he actually goes out and jog (got abit lesser this year but still active).

My mom 20 years already all of our siblings tried to get her to exercise / lose weight, not budging.
She won't even come to terms that she's fat, and kept harping on her track & field days when she was in secondary school.
My siblings who work in healthcare (incl. their spouses) also can't convince her. sweat.gif
