Hi
I'm planning to get gerbils. But i've got a few questions, please help me out. Thanks in advance. (I've seen the PetShack Starter Kit) 1. Should I still use the cat litter as bedding? I read crazymouse's post on homeapet.com that they won't like it. 2. And I have cats(they do their business outdoors)...Will the gerbils get agitated with cats around the house? 3. Can I use a storage box instead of a plastic tank? 4. Any specific temperature conditions? (The place I'm planning to put them gets quite warm during the afternoon with the windows open) 5. What's the difference between bedding and hay? What are they used for? 6. Will gerbils of different age get along fine? 7. Anyone have them for sale around Subang area? |

If u wanna use its ok, at first my gerbils kinda dont like, but it is better for them n us too, coz less dust n less odour.. U can opt for Chipsi Classic if u wan.. 2. And I have cats (they do their business outdoors)...Will the gerbils get agitated with cats around the house? This u have to make sure ur cats cant open the plastic cover.. if u get tank from petshack la.. gerbils wont get frighten easily la.. 3. Can I use a storage box instead of a plastic tank? yes u can but u also have to placed a wire mesh cover to prevent escapes, as gerbils r great jumpers, and also u mentioned u have cats rite? 4. Any specific temperature conditions? (The place I'm planning to put them gets quite warm during the afternoon with the windows open) the coolest part in ur house/room will be needed la.. dont place near windows that can allow rays of sunlight to ur gerbils cage.. 5. What's the difference between bedding and hay? What are they used for? bedding = we use to cover the whole cage area [chipsu classic, breeder celect, delikate shavings], shile hay = as source of fibers [supplement la] and for building nest.. gerbils can bulid nest like birds.. i also amazed by them d.. 6. Will gerbils of different age get along fine? u have to introduce them properly.. males r easier than females, refer to first page on split cage method, and cage-in-cage method ya 7. Anyone have them for sale around Subang area? i know a place.. i also have gerbils for sale.. now only have agouti and black.. future maybe more colours la.. haha.. pm me to know more ya.. |

QUOTE(danniechua @ Sep 14 2008, 02:13 AM) Hi 1. cat litter get those that is appropriate. a good cat litter to use is breeder celect. its actually one of the best for rodents and reptiles too.I'm planning to get gerbils. But i've got a few questions, please help me out. Dont let ur cats near the gerbils. 3. storage box as in toyogo box? yes why not! just make sure u have good cover and also air circulation is fine. 4. room temperature is best. not direct sunlight pls... 5. bedding is subtract where they poo and shit onto. hay is actually food or dried grasses. they will use the hay to build nest or sleeping area as well. try googling hay. u will understand. 6. best to get same age. dont put one year old gerbil with 3-4 months old gerbil. if difference is not too big, and proper introduction is done. then should be fine. 7. this i dunno... if u in melaka i could sell u my 1 pair of gerbil. wanna sell it off coz gonna travel often for weeks and cant really care for it de. so if anyone in melaka wanna get a pair of gerbil cheap, let me know. its male and female. adult size. |

Unless it is begin filter by a wire, so it wont eat it. or when your pet pee on the cat litter, once it dried it begin to become fine dust, lead to respiratory problem. 2. I read crazymouse's post on homeapet.com that they won't like it. not all cat litter can be use. Breeder Celect is a very good bedding to use. and they love it. they will chew up all of them then become soft soft.. all my gerbils use it. 2. And I have cats(they do their business outdoors)...Will the gerbils get agitated with cats around the house? always keep ur pets clean. we canot really answer this question. cos i not sure how clean or dirty is outside ur house 3. Can I use a storage box instead of a plastic tank? i personally don't like storage box. cos pity the animal canot see anything outside the box. 4. Any specific temperature conditions? (The place I'm planning to put them gets quite warm during the afternoon with the windows open) quite warm is how warm? don't put the under direct sunlight. if its in a room, pls open the door n windows. 5. What's the difference between bedding and hay? What are they used for? bedding is to absort pee, hay is for them to chew to make their little nest. 6. Will gerbils of different age get along fine? it depance on the temp of the gerbils. some can be stay together after intro. some is too aggressive even seperate with split cage. anyway intro is aways needed. QUOTE(abang brother @ Sep 14 2008, 07:06 AM) not all cat litter, Breeder Celect is one of the BEST bedding for small animal QUOTE(kelvin_faye @ Sep 17 2008, 01:18 AM) Bought 5 gerbils.. 6 weeks old.. 1 pair of Red Eyed Honey, 1 pair of Lilacs and an Argente male.. hehe red eyed honey? any photo? |
