Ok, I'm going to apply for an Amex - deciding between the gold charge card and platinum credit card.
My question is if the platinum credit card has way more benefits/privileges than the gold card, e.g. airport lounge access, etc? Because the annual fee is much higher at RM800.
Also, how difficult is it to apply for the plat? Can I just enclose a copy of my one year old HSBC plat with RM30k CL?

Incredible! First my Amex Gold application was "stalled" for a month because they needed additional documents but didn't tell me - I only found out when I called to check on the status. After another month, they say my application is rejected with no reasons whatsoever. I really don't understand. I'm a priority bank customer, no loans, hold plat cards, and spend more than RM100k/yr but don't even qualify for a lousy charge card.

I'm devasted! Had wanted to apply Amex to collect Enrich miles quicker, especially Amex plat, so I thought start with gold then upgrade later. Mana tau, gold also don't qualify.

QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Apr 2 2009, 04:50 PM) @wirelessdude, Y don't U apply for an Amex Platinum now and transfer the points you've accumulated from your Gold to that account - I think that might do the trick?! I was told by the officer that I have to wait 6 months before I can apply for Amex again.

QUOTE(tgeoklin @ Apr 3 2009, 08:55 AM) Why don't you get a CIMB Enrich Plat Mastercard? If you a big spender, they will invite you to their Worldcard later on, which will allow the best enrich miles ever Btw, any updates from the Rock? Its been awhile I applied for a gold CIMB Enrich 2 months back because I was concerned with the annual fee - wanted to see my usage and then maybe upgrade to plat later. So far, I've spent almost RM20k for the 2 months but not sure if I can hold up with the on-going recession. Experience hasn't been very good because you usually have to pay full prices (even when discounts are available) to earn bonus miles from their partners. That's why you see many partners leaving the program lately. For normal transactions, Amex is better because of the 2x points and lower conversion rate.
