Hi, recently i applied for an amex card via maybank.
Do they ALWAYS come with 2 cards?

Or maybank just like doing that? (I applied for a gold card earlier last year and i got two cards as well)

Now i have to cancel two cards. haih. or maybe i should just let it expire on its own.

I applied for Maybank Amex Card.

But Amex sent me a gold charge card shortly after my Maybank Amex Card.

Strange.

I applied for Maybank Visa Card and they gave me another Maybank Mastercard as well. laugh.gif

It is like a buy one free one deal. Haha.

I havent register my amex gold charge card though.

Well, when i got my platinum Amex CC, it was a pleasant surprise that they gave me a free Prestige (Shangrila Membership) card. It is worth RM500 that comes with vouchers,etc.

I do not really know how i qualify for it but im pretty happy w the benefits i get out of it. The 2x points and the platinum rewards (10x points) is great as well. Or it so happen to be at places i shop and eat la. laugh.gif

Visa and Master is more widely used but ill always try to use my amex first. smile.gif

quick question(s).

i'm in dire need to boost my enrich points quickly.

so this is my question; does the amex card issued by maybank (with NO maybank logo embedded on it) has any affiliation with the enrich program? if yes, can it rival cimb's dedicated enrich credit card?
thanks

Erm,

Amex points gained are not affiliated with maybank at all anyway. It is deceiving that they lump it together with my treat points at Maybank2u but they are quite different so dont worry whether there is a logo or not.

You can exchange your membership points with enrich points (And many many other airlines as well)

5,600 Membership Rewards points (RM2,800) = 1,000 Airmiles

If you have platinum Credit card / Charge card, there are some platinum partners like parkson,machines,best,dragon-i,etc that offers 10x points, which in this case is RM560 only to get 1000 Airmiles.

http://www2.americanexpress.com.my/members...programme.shtml

CIMB Enrich is

RM6000 Spent is 1,500 Airmiles (Standard) - NOT including Petrol. AMEX offer double points for everything incl petrol

If you purchase from CIMB ENRICH Partners, You get 3 extra Enrich Miles per RM1

You also get buy 1 free 1 business class ticket CIMB Enrich PLATINUM Only *Need to compare with heavily discounted First Class Seat*

CIMB is more generous now with the annual fee waiver because when i enquired a few months back, they didn't give me. However, the requirement is still high.. Gold needs a minimum 50k per annum income.

http://www.cimbbank.com.my/index.php?ch=su...7&tpt=cimb_bank

I Think generally Amex is more flexible, and the points can be used for a lot of other stuff (And other airlines). I think unless you pick up the CIMB Enrich Platinum, AMEX is better off especially their platinum Partners (10x points) are the ones you are more likely to go to (E.G. Parkson, Dragon-I, etc) rather than all the golf courses, hotels that CIMB Enrich Partners offer. The only reason i mention the CIMB Enrich Platinum is the Buy One free One policy (Need to compare with heavily discounted First Class Seat) laugh.gif

Cheers, Soo

Not really because you'll be required to pay for a full fare Business Class ticket and a full fare Business Class ticket can sometimes be a little more expensive than a heavily discounted First Class ticket (KUL-LHR vv for example).

You are right. I didn't factor that in. Oopsie.

Will edit my post. tongue.gif

Thanks for pointing that out

Of course!

Last week I even ordered iPod on eBay. Paid by my AMEX through PayPal. Already for the x3 reward points in my account. Hehe.

Just as a friendly reminder;

Amex cc charges are higher than regular visa/mastercard cc charges.

I notice that when i purchase things online(overseas transaction) so you better calculate your figures correctly before purchasing them because points value is only so much, cash weighs more in most cases tongue.gif

OK back to petrol station stuff (LOL!).

Today I attempted to refuel at Shell in Paka (near Dungun), the AMEX card got rejected 3 times. When consulted the counter staff, all of them were clueless despite the station clearly showed logos of MC, Visa, AMEX and even Diner's Club.

My theory still stands: A lot of non-Klang Valley petrol stations disable the AMEX facility for obvious reason, hoping nobody will find out.
*
When i first started using my amex card last year may til october/november, there weren't any issue with shell at all.

I do encounter problem like you every now and then. The ONLY way is to go into the shell counter and swipe and sign. That works everytime. Sometimes it works outside, sometimes it dont. It is bizarre, i also don't really care about it anymore actually. Sometimes first time fail, second time can rclxub.gif

Added on February 13, 2009, 4:32 pmmind you, the station that i have the most trouble is shell @ glenmarie so that's within klang valley so your theory is not correct.. The conspiracy is bigger that that laugh.gif

@David83,
I was told about the AF waiver on the 3rd card when I asked about waiver for the Platinum Credit Card before I put my application in.  They told me it can't be done unless I oredi have 2 existing MBB Credit Cards.  That gave me the impression that it can be done but since I do not hold 2 other MBB Credit Cards, I didn't pursue asking anymore.

If that were the case, I wouldn't mind getting additional 2 MBB CCs just to get my Amex Platinum Credit Card AF waived smile.gif

laugh.gif Strange coincidence, my Amex Plat CC is my 3rd CC with maybank, with my visa and mastercard my first two. I will update here soon after talking to the CS today or monday.. Someone told me to wait til the AF appears in my bill tongue.gif

@WaCKy-Angel,
hMm.. I'm looking at options to see how I can salvage my existing MR points without having to redeem anything for now.  I believe I'll be receiving my RM800 AF soon so better start thinking of alternatives now *grins*
*
I thought we can exchange 200MR for RM1 rebate?

I intend to change everything soon, i think i only left a bit more than 100k MR points, that's about RM500 smile.gif

I use about RM1.5k for petrol every month so its okla, one month all gone dy laugh.gif I so regret using the MR points for coupons, cold cash is always best laugh.gif
