Hi Guys,

I just received a letter from Maybank Card Center. They offer me AMEX gold if I mail back the form that they give. Well I never apply for this & not own any CC with them now (cancel one a few month back as they give me gold card instead of I applied for platinum).

What do you guys think, should I accept this card as I don't see much offer/ benefit compare with other Credit Card & Debit Card that I have.

Just received my AMEX Gold Card today smile.gif. Going to use it soon to entitle for a Gift, a bag.

I try to register at their website for online. User ID & password registration is OK but stuck at page where they asking for telephone number verification. Enter all the information but still stuck. Anyone experience this before? Going to try a few more times, if still fail, will contact CS.

I guess u'll like the bag very much. It looks good, quality is not bad also.

I hope so. The only reason I accept their pre-approve AMEX was because of the bag. haha

See from the AMEX statement that it is now allowed to convert the points into cash rebate.

Wonder where I can see the rates.
*
Interesting, what was written in the statement?. Did not see any related information on their website.

I am still searching through maybank2u and americanexpress.com.my websites but can't find any.

The overleaf of the statement states this
Got it

Thanks. So every 200 point you get RM1 & every RM1 spend you get 2 points. So the rebate is 1%. Very good. thumbup.gif

Yes, better than AmBank AmBonus. But not as good as Alliance 2% in which they rejected me liao....  yawn.gif
*
Yup, less than Alliance card, but remember its up to 2% base on tier rate & max rm5000 spending. Their premium debit card is the only true 2% rebate card.

By the way I am a new AMEX user, do I need to enroll for membership rewards program & pay RM25 per year to enjoy this rebate? I am holding AMEX gold card.

I am not sure whether you need to enroll or not.. If you can see your rewards points in your statement on via online, I think you have been enrolled.
*
Yes I can see rewards points online. Means that it automatically enroll & do not need to pat rm25 right?

Including Turbo MR points is in total 2x or 3x ? How much MR points is needed to redeem RM25 for the turbo activation ?  hmm.gif  It is worth it (i.e. breakeven points) ?
*
For MR Turbo you need RM100 for activation. To get RM100 need 20,000 MR = RM6666 to spend. If you are big spender maybe it is worth it.

I need to spend min RM50 to get the bag  wub.gif

u apply the card & get it?
biggrin.gif
*
Is it RM50 or RM100? Not really remember though.

After you spend, you have to settle out your bills. They only give you the bag 6 weeks after that.

For me I was offered the card by AMEX (pre-approve) & they state they I qualify for the bag if I accept their offer & make first spending.

If you have a cc which currently offers something like 5% cash rebate, you may consider to make the payment via cc. The 5% rebate is good enough to compensate the 2.75% additional charges.  rclxms.gif
*
If you talk about JustOne card then, it will not 100% compensate as maximum rebate per year is only RM600.

I think you better check with AMEX to confirm if can combine the points. Call them at 1800-88-9559
tinkelbel, the Uni charges 2.75% for US issued card also lah. To save the charges I getting US checking account where the school do not impose any surcharge for checks. Instead of paying using CC/Amex, can be used surcharge $ to pay for his airfare home every year.

Upgrade seat no prob as got UA milage plus.
Well you a point there about 5% rebate but mah fan lah have to charge on Friday only and as GHz mentioned max RM600 for JustOne. Get my son to pay by cek easier for me lah.
*
If you pay by US issued debit card, still need to pay additional 2.75%? If not when you open an US checking account you will get debit card.

When I was in US earlier this month, almost any single transaction made even USD1.00 can be made by using card without additional charge. Not understand why your son's Uni impose additional charge.

Yah, any online transaction with AMEX and MC need to pay 2.75% and that applies to debit card also. Reason I think is because they use 3rd party for payment called Touchnet or something for online accounts. As I mentioned 20 years ago I already can pay my tuition fees with CC and no such charges. Yah, you are right, a debit card will be issued on the spot when I open checking account.

tinkerbel, about trip to US, not really good time as H1N1 still active and don't want you taking the risk  tongue.gif Anyway, my trip will be boring as half the trip at my son's Uni town.
*
Don't worry about H1N1, when I was there for 1+ week early this month, I see nobody really care about it & I'm not seeing any single person wearing mask. Only in Malaysia we see people wearing mask. Even WHO says that H1N1 is nothing more than normal flu.

Everyone here know that AMEX charge 2.5% overseas transaction fee.

This is what I experience when while using AMEX in foreign currency.

I make a payment of USD1000 & my AMEX statement shows RM3627.48. Interbank exchange rate for that day is 3.5296. So it is about AMEX charge 2.5% higher when compare to Interbank rate. - OK

A few weeks later, the above transaction was reversed, so my AMEX was credited with USD1000. My AMEX statement shows RM3628.50. Interbank exchange rate for that day is 3.5434. So, again it is about 2.5% higher when compare to Interbank rate. - HMM, INTERESTING.

I'm not sure whether this is only applicable to reverse transaction but if is also applicable if we make payment to the card, then we have a 2.5% gain. But then how do we pay AMEX with USD?

Any comments?

@GHz,
Er.. what'd U mean by make payment with the card to gain the 2.5%?
*
If notice from my post above, when I received the USD1000 to my AMEX, the exchange rate is 2.5% higher than the interbank rate. Just wondering whether we can exploit that to our benefit.

@GHz,
Er.. in that case, have U checked if U lost $ in terms of forex for that particular transaction?!  I guess if the transaction is cancelled, Amex doesn't charge U the 2.5% administrative fees?
*
No loss but RM1 gain haha. blush.gif

Actually, my point is when that USD deposit into my AMEX, they use exchange rate of Interbank + 2.5%. Means that if we pay AMEX by using USD then it is 2.5% gain. brows.gif .
