if I get a sport cars wondering if I "get" to feel your age again tongue.gif

no need few companies, if can just take over AMEX will do, and to save cost, change all AMEX cards to laminated cardboard.

QUOTE(tgeoklin @ Jul 8 2009, 09:48 AM)
Mine Amex is weird, statement date keeps running 1 or 2 or even 3 days from month to month, but I normally pay them by the 20th of the following month.
*
My charged card the same, statement date can be on 28th or 29th. I guess AMEX uses days cycle (3 day diff for Feb or Mac statement date?) unlike CC where statement date is fixed. For my charged card AMEX is kind of flexible where I can make payment (by cheque) few days late after due date and not charged for late fees. For CC, not the case, cheque usually have to be cleared before due date but BNM just introduced 3 days grace starting this month.

anyone notice nowadays when we login to check our charge card statement on americanexpress.com.my, it will auto direct us to US AMEX web site and then show " non US card". This is quite troublesome cos sometime we have to type in our login detail twice.

any of you experience the same thing?

i did check last week, no problems logging in but did not notice "non US card".

hahaha, non AMEX card holders also can join lah. Since you got charge card, you can sign up for 3X Turbo points but you got to pay RM100 and it is good till March 2009 (if not mistaken). If you will charge more than RM20K before expiry period for Turbo points, then enroll and see your MR grow.

somebody been busy shopping with plastic tongue.gif can't wait to see your new car.

more than 20 years ago, while still an undergraduate in US, walk into a car dealer, paid for a used car costing less than USD 5K with AMEX and drove off smile.gif

Anyway, just to update, called AMEX CC CS today, the CS I spoke to last week was busy, later she called me back (called several times actually as set my phone to reject unknown calls). Inform me my request for higher CL have been doubled, CS asked me enough, I said well it is less than half of my other Plat CC CL and she said my charged card account is good so she putting up a request again. Must say AMEX CC (in this case MBB) CS just as curteous and give personal service as AMEX charge card CS (or are the Charge Card and CC same CS hmm.gif )

I'm a cheapskate and am determined NOT to pay the AF this time round.

*
With your determination, I am sure your Plat AF would be waived but with certain condition. I find AMEX very accomodating and "efficient" in the case of my request for higher CL where the CS called me today and infomed me it has been increased again (took 2 days only since last increase).

Actually you not cheapskate but maybe you expect AMEX Plat to waive like CC Plat. In addition to 10X MR at certain merchants (which is equivalent to like 5% rebate when considerng 200MR = RM1), AMEX's PLAT golf privilages is good and comes with Shangri La Card and these two benefits itself is worth the RM800 in my opinion.

Cheapskate is me, not even willing to consider paying for 1 year AF and go for "free" cards only, hahaha

Let's see whether my analysis is correct.  hmm.gif

1 MR point = 0.5% cash
60,000 MR = RM300

Therefore, they actually want you to pay RM300 for the AF waiver indirectly. Although it's much lower than RM800, paying such amount with no further promotion/gift (like Longines) doesn't worth it.
*
What if you consider 10X MR where tinkelbel did get.

Spend RM6K get 60,000 to exchange Annual fee waiver or RM800/RM6000 = 13.33%. Based on this, reasonable lah that you use MR for waiver in my opinion. If more and more people do cancel their Plat cards because of Annual Fees, then in coming years I am sure it be easier to get AF waiver. Even Robinson card got to spend like RM7K+ to get free AF.

tinkelbel, if MBB management lower the MR required for AF waiver, for feel good factor, just assume the 8X MR for petrol last month kind of subsidise for your card lah.

I just did some comparison of transactions in USD and summarized below:

Date/Card/USD/RM Billed/Rate/EX Rate/Ratio

19 Dec/Amex/75/267.83/3.571066667/3.470762104/1.028899867
14 Jan/Amex/30/109.33/3.644333333/3.572562581/1.020089432
10 April/Amex/3128.74/11602.77/3.708448129/3.607688457/1.02792915
1 May/UOB/60/218.68 /3.644666667/3.560319931/1.023690774
18 April/UOB/48/177.67/3.701458333/3.627296141/1.020445585
1 June/HSBC/200/710.59/3.55295/3.472223573/1.023249202
9 July/Alliance/43.03/155.48/3.613293051/3.56400013/1.013830786

From above AMEX charge card admin fees for overseas transaction varies between 2%-2.8%
UOB 2%-2.3%, HSBC 2.3% and Alliance 1.38%. Above table does not represent actual charges as the currency may have fluactuated up or down from the day the charges were transacted.

As many said, Alliance do not charge admin fees but I guess Visa/MC admin fees itself is about 1%. If Amex reduce the admin charges to 2% instead of 2.5%, then it is competitive with other CC except Alliance.

No lah, did not register any express bill or whatever as my wife and my telco bills with UOB for years and too lazy to change. Moreover my personal numbers usage very low, got other numbers where usage are high but that's under my company account. Wish they have 5X for insurance premiums, then definately will switch to AMEX auto debit.

Yes U haf fun.  Eh btw I hear U can swipe school fees through CC now; perhaps U could consider using one of the CCs of yours ; that'll give U a lot of points; esp one which has bonus points; 5X or 10X *smiles*

And, I await reviews of Cirque's Zumanity yeah biggrin.gif
*
Thanks, will try to have fun.

When I was studying in US more than 20 years ago my Uni already accepted payment with Visa/MC. My son's school do accept AMEX and MC online but it charges 2.75% extra sad.gif When convert to RM, I have to pay extra RM3.5K+ and add CC admin fee another RM1.3K+ (that's using Alliance), so total about RM4K for 2 semesters for nothing. Main reason going US is to open joint checking account with my son as he underage; with the checking account he can pay for whatever. And since going there might as well take my wife to LA and Vegas because while she was doing her undergraduate in US I only took her to the South (e.g New Orleans & Florida) and East Coast (e.g. Niagara Falls, Washington DC and New York) only. I myself have been to LA & Vegas twice and to East Coast few times.

Don't expect me to give you a review because I am bad at those as it is not techinical where I can give you report with numbers. Maybe my wife can do a review for you, haha

I think you better check with AMEX to confirm if can combine the points. Call them at 1800-88-9559

QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Jul 20 2009, 10:33 AM)

Am sure U'll figure out if it's worth the $ or not; or the other option is go over to the USA and apply for an American based Amex; that way U don't need to have to pay the additional fees and can still benefit from the points; at the end of his college years U be able to upgrade ur seats from Economy to Business for you and your entire family travelling to the USA for his graduation biggrin.gif

As to 5X points for Insurance.. well, right now, I only hope Prudential starts accepting Amex cause I'm with them but they only accept Visa/MC.

U could always take me along with you and your wife to the USA then there's no need for a review *smiles*
*
tinkelbel, the Uni charges 2.75% for US issued card also lah. To save the charges I getting US checking account where the school do not impose any surcharge for checks. Instead of paying using CC/Amex, can be used surcharge $ to pay for his airfare home every year.

Upgrade seat no prob as got UA milage plus.

QUOTE(winner @ Jul 20 2009, 09:29 AM)
If you have a cc which currently offers something like 5% cash rebate, you may consider to make the payment via cc. The 5% rebate is good enough to compensate the 2.75% additional charges.  rclxms.gif
*
Well you a point there about 5% rebate but mah fan lah have to charge on Friday only and as GHz mentioned max RM600 for JustOne. Get my son to pay by cek easier for me lah.

If you pay by US issued debit card, still need to pay additional 2.75%? If not when you open an US checking account you will get debit card.

When I was in US earlier this month, almost any single transaction made even USD1.00 can be made by using card without additional charge. Not understand why your son's Uni impose additional charge.
*
Yah, any online transaction with AMEX and MC need to pay 2.75% and that applies to debit card also. Reason I think is because they use 3rd party for payment called Touchnet or something for online accounts. As I mentioned 20 years ago I already can pay my tuition fees with CC and no such charges. Yah, you are right, a debit card will be issued on the spot when I open checking account.

tinkerbel, about trip to US, not really good time as H1N1 still active and don't want you taking the risk tongue.gif Anyway, my trip will be boring as half the trip at my son's Uni town.

1. RM100 Tesco voucher

New Booklet - 20,000MR

2. RM100 Parkson voucher

Old Booklet - 17,500MR
New Booklet - 19,000MR

So there is inflation on MR shocking.gif

Yah, MJ and Parkson 19K MR for RM100 voucher now and not 20K MR, others are mostly at 20K MR for RM100 voucher my mistake.

It is more worth it to get dinning vouchers.

@Gen-X & GHz,
The TreatsFair is offering 8,500 TP/MR for RM50 of Petronas voucher - that IMHO is pretty good exchange rate.  I didn't read about other vouchers and no one mentioned it during the TreatsFair so I'm unsure if U can redeem other vouchers there at a lower value.
*
Went to MBB Treat Fair and did see the Petronas voucher you mentioned but did consider getting it. Instead saw a Targus bag which i liked and redeem for 25,000 points. To me it was very worth it because market price for the bag is RM249.

Got myself a free pen and pencil for signing up for online banking for my AMEX Gold CC. Actually they only gave me temporary pin number to use with my AMEX Gold CC where I need to go to MBB ATM to sign up for online access.

QUOTE(pillage2001 @ Jul 26 2009, 02:45 AM)
Don't think I read this anywhere but are Membership Rewards points and Treatpoints the same thing??? I see in my maybank account, it's stated Treatspoints while the brochure says I'll get MR points.......which is which?
*
During Treat Fair the same number of points required to redeem same item was same for MR or TP.

Checking out MBB catalogue, for vouchers, e.g. Need 9000, 10,000, 11000 points for RM50 TT, MJ and Guardian. If I were to consider my MBB Petronas Card for purchases other than petrol, can't beat my AMEX Gold CC 2X and Charged Card 3X for MR.

Conclusion, for Treats Fair, in my case MR very worth it compared to my MBB petronas card which does not give 2X TP. I should use AMEX whenever I can for MR where I get 2X/3X over MBB Petronas TP.

*
For normal days, just call CS over the phone and tell them you want to redeem voucher(s). Just get the voucher code ready. Usually when I redeem for vouchers, either I am on my computer screen looking at the code or write the code down in post in note at windows sidebar.

Now I know why AMEX only credit the 8X points next month is so that we cannot redeem the points during Treats Fair.

Edited**

Just called AMEX CS at 1800889559, confirmed that AMEX GOLD CC refer to AMEX MR catalogue and not MBB TP catalogue. But I guess most of you already know.
