business class as usual got its own priority gate, empty, no need queue and go thru security with the mass

don't recommend cash except if you want to convert RMB to HKD..i convert JPY straight to RMB into my chinese friend Alipay, then they transfer it to my Alipay.
At one point i realised i have to much RMB and needed to change into cash for converting to HKD, it was a hassle. was lucky a nice auntie was willing to change with me 1k RMB to cash.

Yes, lucky af, before I went, I slightly regretted planning that trip during summer, because I was about to repeat the year before Taiwan trip in summer. Screw that weather.

A week before, the greater Bay Area everyday also kena issue extreme hot weather warning, until 1 day before I touch down, it started raining. It was pretty cooling all the time I was there, overcast or light rain. Even if heavy, just take DiDi to a mall or indoor stuff to burn time

Shopping not really, but for food and other stuffs, it’s great. Shopping head to HK I feel better, although a lot of things I felt Japan cheaper than HK

u need to install Alipay international version, link a couple of CC to it because sometimes sot and one bank block the transaction, you can use another one..happened to me once when i was riding the subway in Beijing a few months ago

for public transport, make sure your alipay after initial setup (register passport, etc.), change the region to Guangzhou and select "transport" in the main page. from there, register for the guangzhou subway metro card, it's free. once you can see the QR code, you are good to go for train. do the same for bus.

for maps, if can read chinese, Amap is my go to app..everything from planning, ride hailing, etc.

for bike, you want both alipay and meituan app..alipay (blue bike) tend to be cheaper from my experience

Er…this one depends on what u eat/stay. Me 2 pax breakfast, lunch either 酒家 or random spots, Michelin restaurant dinner almost every night about 1k rmb/day for food. Hotel 5-star there 1k/night. Transportation is cheap, metro literally like free (3-6rmb), taxi also not exp 15-30 rmb on average, the most I also paid only like 80 rmb that’s because it drove more than certain km and got extra 30% surcharge.

Realistically, a beef noodle cost from 18-30rmb. Wonton mee like 10+ rmb..these are like cheap joints and still great food, really good value.

yes, very big diff in such short time, ppl their also slowly catch up, you don't really see those stereotypes in the bigger city

nope, I use Amap for hailing taxi, it connects to a bunch of providers..and usually the taxi driver communicate via chat instead of call from my experience
I bought data only eSIM from HK, and use the eSIM number to register services that require phone number and supports HK mobile number (e.g. Amap)

in china, all use Alipay and credit card. I converted about 20k rmb to my alipay via Wise.
Alipay very convenient in China..there are some moments where they don't have alipay only have wechat pay, and my wechat pay isn't set up, so I just go other stores

for HK, i converted the remaining rmb in Alipay to cash for converting to HKD, you need cash for this.

HK->GZ 2nd class: 215 rmb, 1st class: 344 rmb, business class: 645 rmb

GZ->SZ 2nd class: 74.5 rmb, 1st class: 99.5 rmb , business class: 199 rmb
