im renewing my passport online and i am trying to make sure my passport photo meets spec.
but when i check the example provided by imigresen, it looks like even their example photo which has the spec dimensions written, does not actually meet the specs.



so actually need to follow the spec or not?
if need to follow the spec, then i will need to edit my photo. if not, i can just submit as is.

as far as i know
all my picture taken external shop, all kena reject

the counter always ask me go to the mini shop attached to the bangunan to retake the picture

later i just go straight there take picture

Sure kena reject one.. stupid SOP and guideline.
Just walk in to the center get thumbprint and reshoot picture again at the counter.

Agree. Don't waste money. Ayam even bodoh go 2 shops and pay money. Both got rejected. Just walk in and settle on the spot.

I go shop paid 6 pieces of passport photo with soft copy, Tak lepas.
Go home do DIY and Photoshop according to the specifications, Tak lepas.

In the end go to center reshoot and get it done on same day. 1 hour later collect passport

I use huawei p30, stand against the wall, then chiak chiak.

then crop, upload

dah selesai, pass!

I just renewed mine last Thursday.

Let me teach you the hax:

Apply online, upload ANY selfie taken with your phone, make payment of rm200 (this is important), then wait (they dont send any confirmation email, so dont worry if you dont receive anything).

By next working day, you will receive an email basically telling you to go to counter because your cap jari got issue and also your photo got issue.

Ignore the photo re-uploading request in the email. Go directly to immigration centre and bring along these 3 documents:

1) Printed RECEIPT of your payment (must be printed or kena charge RM3 to print at centre)
2) Old passport
3) IC

When at immigration centre they will help you to take the needed photo at their counter FREE OF CHARGE. Once all done, wait for the counter to call name for new passport collection.


Notes:
1) Don't bother to take photo at outside.
2) Bring PRINTED payment receipt, no softcopy.
3) Go to Kelana Jaya Immigration Centre if possible. Love their service, never had any issue with them for the past 3 rounds of passport renewal.

Two things I learnt from this "photo debacle".

1) Go to a photoshop, tell them you taking pic for passport >>>> taking for yourself.
2) DON'T. EVER. UPLOAD. AND. ADJUST. WITH. YOUR. PHONE.

surprisingly, i took use app, pass, go immigresen collect passport, 5 minutes settle

i ask my kid to take a pic of me, transfer pic to pc and remove backgound using free website online, then remove bright spots on forehead and nose using photoshop. 1st try lulus. collect pasport next day.

ayam renewed using outside shop photo. tell them you want renew passport upload sendiri. upload as it is no need edit2 cause shop gave 2 versions, (passport standard size and cropped version) just upload the crop version, dont ADJUST anything. just click upload dont tangan gatal think you some tech wiz.

then upload time on Sunday, i remember straight got reply say rejected or something. then ayam tried non stop. then ayam change the date for collection and did this process on weekday office hours then no more email reply straigh away one. (this means they are processing, ayam suspect sunday upload like kena the auto reply "out of office" thingy".

then few days later got receive email say can collect already. so the photo actually work, ayam suspect is either working hours and date of collection for that day full already.

i pernah do myself, no issue , macam straightforward.

then last time i was in our neighbouring country , someone said got photo issue, ask me to help do it online.
i said aiya senang je la, apalj susah i help for free...

I tried so many times, retaking, cropping, etc, in the end cannot

told the person just go to those specialised photo studio that can do it . those photo studio must have found the hack... or they contacted "somebody" to know the tips and trick... they were making a lot because everyone just went to them to get it done, sendiri buat really frustrating waste a lot of time

till today i duno how i did it when i succeeded to do my own photo.

The machine they used back then was not some pro DSLR
It's just one of those coin operated picture machine

No wonder the picture is soft as hell

Majority immigration got canon dslr on counter.

Huge moneh investment tho.

I used phone to take photo, then Photoshop out the background. Lepas.

it's the JPG dimension error, not your photo

I use same exactly file size as per recommended by website, but after print out passport CB kena distort.

It could probably be:
1) Your camera angle too high / too low. Place ur camera perpendicular to your face
2) The background is either too busy / colour salah / too dark. Make sure the background is white and bright

ayam just go at the shop. the shop even guarantee if cannot pass they'll redo free of charge. first try terus approved while ayam been trying 4-5time failed

trust the skill, they know better

those high traffic one, better dont walk-in. limited queue number per day.

then i upload and suddenly the picture is completely distorted. wth?

cropped too narrow. leave more space on left and right. the ratio should be 2:1 according to the guideline. 70mm tall 35mm wide.

i think the system now is not forcing you to use their subcon
but to take picture at the counter, so the picture file is digital
instead of taking your photo to scan into the system

should have come out with rules to just go to counter to take picture
no need to give guidance on the picture

or is there places in malaysia still that lacks this kind of facilities?

guideline is 50x35.
i tried 50x40 and the ratio became a bit too narrow BUT after hundreds of tries, in the end, i managed to get the system to accept my photo which was 50x40. the 50x35 couldnt pass at all.

any photo taken by a professional photographer at their shop is best. selfie. no. will kena reject

if you check closely, it's 70mm including the background, leave 10mm spaces top and bottom. that's what the system is asking.

upon closer look, you need another 10mm left and right as well. pardon me. it should be 700mm x 550mm.

Recent experience. Android phone. Download passport photo app. Ambil gambar with front camera. Upload. Passed.

Me too. Used professional photo. Submitted online no issues

me n wife both take at same shop, different year. both passed without any issue. at puchong

so its all depend on your photographer.

I renewed mine last november, and my fam in feb/may this year..

Just went photo shop, ask for pic for passport, then they email to me, then submit and pay online, then next day pickup passport.

Maybe some photo shop camera problem

Adjust a bit, immegresen will use the outcome picture for your passport. If you proceed your passport image will distort same like mine.

i did a few times - ok .. today do tomorrow ok
once i did - 5.00 pm submit with payment
6.00 pm received email notification its ready

after attach picture, need to adjust in there, make sure face within the mid circle (ears as well) .. and your cheeks/chin there near the circle below

Wrt the part about going directly;
1. Does it apply to all branches including UTC? I’m not based in Selangor.
2. Just go directly without getting number from that stupid QMS app or whatever it’s called?

A guideline that will guarantee you to fail in renewing your passport

last time i do that at johor branch, i kena halau go outside take photo.

1) Not sure. Your best bet is to check the google review (sort by latest/recent review) of your intended UTC branch. Chances are there will be some kind soul describing their past experience and the right step for renewal. I did the homework on Kelana Jaya branch before i started applying.

2) i think QMS queue number is for applications that cannot be done online a.k.a. walk-in applications. If you have applied online and received the email notification to go to centre, you dont need the QMS number.


Disclaimer: im not an immigration officer, only spoke based on experience, so do take my advice at your own calculated risk.

I think its important to receive this email notification on "dikehendaki hadir ke Pejabat XXX" for collection.

Go early, take queue number. They'll give you a small yellow form to fill up.

Bring your old passport and mykad.

Make sure you wear dark attire. They'll take your photo there. Some officers very particular about certain things cannot wear. For guys, need to remove earrings. If long hair tied in a bun, the bun cannot be higher than your head. Have to re-tie, etc.

Mostly very friendly.

They say like wait for 1 hour to collect, after all the process including making payment. Just wait there. You'll see one by one the ppl in front of your queue getting their new passports in no time.

Remember take back your old passport. Sometimes need to carry along when you travel especially if you have visa for certain countries.

I've done mine at UTC Selangor, November last year. Reached before 7am. They opened at 8am. By 10am+ can be done.

Last year did 3 passport renewals online.

First one go local photo shop take "passport" photo, soft copy, RM24. Got rejected. Went to Immigration, took photo at counter. kautim.

Next one, take photo with phone. Adjust bg colour in Photoshop. Accepted.

No 3. Use existing photo, adjust bg colour in Photoshop. OK.

So don't waste money at physical photo shop. If prefer to go shop, the only reliable ones are those near the immigration office. eg: for immigration office at Kajang, there's one just outside.

If you’re going to Pudu utc, there is a shop there called Srata. I went there last week to have my passport renew online by them. They took the photo there and submit for you for a fee of rm30. I renewed 3 passport, not even one gets rejected.

well my case i applied online with self taken photo then photoshop to their spec
self collect no need retake photo just thumb print
so yes i guess u can still pass with own photo

chii have renewed my passport few times, never hear before photo from any photo shop cannot work.
my son 2 year old also use shop photo, elok je renew.

KL area really have issues with the shop or the gomen passport office.

Myself needed 3 attempts. First 2 photos the immigration upload rejected and error message said got more than 1 person in the shot (wtf, I confirm no shadows also) and some other nonsense. Third time baru pass. A bit leceh because that passport photo website only allows one free image per account before they ask you to buy credits, so I had to create a new account 3 times using different disposable email aliases, but lucky in the end photo accepted and I got the LULUS email next morning. Take note that you need tap the dropdown arrow, select jpeg and push the slider to 100% or the image file size will be too small. Now I need to wait and see if they will make me reshoot or not when I go to collect.
