alipay bikes are cheaper i think, i never got more than 3rmb charge/trip.

after some shopping, it was almost pangkang time..this time dinner is special, a guangdong local bring go makan Shunde 顺德 cuisine


some small back story, back in 2018, my alma mater organized some summer camp for China student to come over, and I flew back from JP to go help out my ex-supervisor for a few weeks.
so turn out that most of the chinese students were actually from Guangdong area, so when I visited guangzhou, one of them brought me out makan their famous cuisine

Shunde "congee"..my friend mentioned it's called differently but i forgot what it was..he said this taste like sick ppl food

this omelette quite special..inside got Shunde kuew teow, pretty interesting one


Estuary grouper, loong dan, canton steam but very funky flavour..it has whole peppercorn, so it first taste like zingy/tangy, but a spicy aftertaste. sedappp

shunde famous double skin milk pudding 双皮奶
this one authentic version, very hard to make and many outside sell they put kuih lin kao powder inside which make the pudding too solid/bouncy.
the baffalo milk pudding is very soft and sweet. just dig in spoon by spoon and eat, you should never mix the thing because it will turn into liquid


supper hunt for milk tea. too bad, none can compare to taiwanese milk tea


on the way back from fo shan to guangzhou, saw the guangzhou circle building

breakfast in nearby noodle joint, wan tan mee and 炸酱面, idk how to translate this


after breakfast, took the subway to Chen clan ancestral hall
not sure why but the day I visited, the entry was free lucky

Yea, Beijing road very nice and hipster. My guangzhou friend ask me to skip Shang Xia road and visit Beijing road instead

Yes, actually initially I was quite surprised. Because I spoke mandarin to them, they replied me in canton I hang for a while because was not expecting it, then I pretty much got used to it.
But in HK, I try speak canton most of the time unless I can't find the word for it then I switch back to mandarin

hmm, ok kut, depends on budget..they famous for the dish below

but if compared with MY ones, probably MY ones more flavourful.
that said, the guangzhou student group that visited MY Sabah, most of them commented our food too flavourful (too salty, sweet, spicy, etc.)
so taking this into account, for the local probably best, but for our tastebud that is overloaded with aji, probably so so

海晏楼 also nice, cheaper but not so grand atmosphere, ate the flying fish here n gu lou yok (some pic coming up soon in the next thread, will tag u later)

the shunde cuisine was kinda unplanned..wanted to try the double skimmed milk n other shunde cuisine although not too familiar with them.
but i was too lazy to venture further out of GZ area, so never planned for it...but end up my friend drove us there for dinner since he lives in that city and work in GZ

this one very useful for map and calling taxi, but need HK/china number to register an account to save those locations for easy access. I used HK data-only eSIM number to registered an acc.

primarily I do research with both google maps and Amap, but later moved all to Amap (everything is in chinese though). this need China/TW/HK number to register an acc, no way around it. I used a HK tourist data only eSIM phone number to register an acc, can receive sms just fine.
three.com.hk is cheap and reliable, I didn't had good experiences with Airalo on my beijing trip.

for hotel, if budget allows for it, garden hotel is nice, can check out my first thread for more info
but maybe it's a bit of distance from beijing road (~25 min from garden hotel using subway, change 1 line), so something close to beijing road would be better if you like to walk around the most vibrant district without taking any public transport

i also looked into white swan hotel but I felt it was a bit too western taste, wanted something a bit oriental

I felt maybe HK food taste slightly better (to MY taste bud), but also taking into account cost perf and variety, guangzhou win by far

not sure tbh, but guangzhou shenzhen, most of the vehicles are EV, car, bikes, bus, etc. so the air is actually very clean. I went to GZ just 2 weeks ago.

first time I was in Beijing, I cannot connect to my self hosted Wireguard VPN on WiFi but when I was in Guangzhou time, somehow I never had any issue connecting to my Wireguard VPN for western site access. so this time I sub HK eSIM with china roaming for nearest traffic routing instead of Airalo route to SG
