So my car in the middle lane, traveling at 110 KM/H (On speedo), 108 KM/H (On Waze gps)

The speed limit on that stretch is 110 KM/H

Then there is this pickup truck speed past me, I think about 120KM/H or so (Checking my dashcam, it took the pickup truck less than 2 seconds to get past me)

So when the pickup truck is a slightly ahead of me (He is still in the most right lane, i am in the middle lane), the speed trap flashed at us.

In this case, will my car get fined instead of him? Since my car is on the middle lane, and the pickup truck is on the overtake (Most right) Lane

In situations like the one you described, it's natural to be concerned about who might get fined when a speed trap flashes. Here's how it typically works:

Speed traps are generally designed to capture the speed and license plate of the vehicle that is speeding. These cameras are sophisticated enough to distinguish between vehicles in different lanes, especially when there are clear speed differences. In your case, since the pickup truck was in the rightmost lane and you were in the middle lane, the camera should have captured the speeding pickup truck if it was indeed going over the speed limit.

Given that you were driving at or slightly below the speed limit according to your GPS (108 km/h), it's unlikely that your vehicle will be fined. The speed trap likely flashed because of the pickup truck, which was moving faster than you.

However, there are some scenarios where errors could occur, but these are rare. If you were driving within the speed limit and the camera's technology is working correctly, your car shouldn't be flagged for speeding.

If you do end up receiving a fine, most jurisdictions allow you to contest it, especially if you believe you were not the speeding vehicle. You could use evidence from your dashcam to support your case if necessary.

IINM they take several pictures to determine which vehicle is speeding by determining the time taken for a vehicle to get from point A to point B.

So if your not speeding u have nothing to worry about.

You're safe.

Don't be scared if you do nothing wrong. This is what scammers love too. Fear then taunt you.

Did nothing wrong, don't need to be scared.

i read before. those fixed-mounted cameras are triggered by sensor loops embedded in the road. same loops that you usually see installed at traffic light junctions. and they are re-calibrated, re-tested, re-certified from time to time according to the article.

so they know which lane exactly is the culprit driving in. they measure the speed taken by a vehicle to travel between loop A and loop B.

i always drive 110km/h even with those camera threatening in front, because i believe their underlying sensor loop implementation is trustworthy. several times the cameras had flashed as faster vehicles overtook at same time, yet i have not collected a single speeding ticket.

--

add:
it was newspaper article regarding those fixed-mount cameras belonging to JPJ, sprinkled around the country. what's their name? i forgot. they assure that if it says you're driving 187km/h, then you really did. because it's simple math measuring time taken to travel the distance between 2 sensor loops.

1. I remember reading it somewhere that you are allowed to go 10km/h above speed limit however I couldn't find anything related to this online for now

2. If you still worry, in future just drive 10km/h below speed limit to be safe. as frequent PLUS highway user, I already remember all the speed camera from KL to PG and vice versa except those AWAS camera blush.gif

The system can identify which lane is the speeding one. So, if you are within the speed limit, there is nothing to worry about.

But my case is terbalik vs your case, which I am speeding but when the camera flash/capture the plate no, there is a bus/trailer right beside the camera, so it blocked the view in capturing my plate no. my luck i guess (it happened a long time ago when AES is just installed around Slim River part of N/S highway)..

There was a motorcycle speeding on emergency lane and AES flashes both of us. That was 1 year ago and i still haven't receive any summon. I guess they would review the footage before issue summon.

In old radar system, it will capture strongest reflected signal which is usually the nearest and largest vehicle close to radar. That is why police usually target radar to specific vehicle. Nowadays radar can detect multiple vehicles and record speed of each vehicle.
