Hi all.

Some questions here. If i buy a D40 without lens.Body only. Then, what lens(with af) should i buy? Just for your info, I'm very new in this. So I will just take any photos. Budjet for lens about blw Rm700. Another question, I have a Tamron 70-300mm. Bought this few years back ago for my Nikon SLR. Is it possible to use it on D40?

buy 2nd hand Nikkor 18-70mm or 18-135mm...cost less than 700
both a good all-rounder lense...

T70-300 not able to AF with D40...need to manual focus...

means that i can use the lens? just need to manual focus myself? smile.gif and, will the lens spoil the camera body slowly?

Added on April 12, 2008, 11:25 ambtw, anyone willing to explain the lens for me. For example- Nikkor AF-S 18-55mm. What does the S stand for? AF is auto focus right? and what does f/3.5 means? focal length?

manual focus wont spoil the lens or body.

AF-S is the nikon's series of lenses that have a focusing motor, SWM.

ya like mindkiller explained...AF-S (and AF-I) are d only series of Nikon lens with built-in motor (for motorless body like D40/x/60)
read more here: http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/nikortek.htm#afs

f/3.5-5.6 = max apperture size for respective focal length (ie 18mm and 55mm)
18-55mm = focal length
