The reason that a lens with a big maximum aperture is referred to as fast is that it lets more light in and therefore you can use faster shutter speeds even when there might not be much light around.  |

Lower f-stop lets you use shorter shutter time while maintining the same exposure.
Already have a 50mm 1.8D for portrait/night shots. I don't think I can appreciate the 17-55 yet... VR is probably more useful to me atm. 17-55 isnt that much more expensive over the 18-200 here in Aus, but then again the 18-200 here is already overpriced compared to Msia.

ZOMG IM IN LOVE  took the 18-200 out for a few test shots...   200mm handheld /w VR... 1/10s f/5.6 ISO 800 and a fairly tricky light source |
