Hi to all sifus here,

I have recently replaced my front original speaker with Coaxial (MOHAWK M5-625P2 V2) in Myvi G3. All the other stuffs including head unit is still in original condition. No DSP, no AMP, no woofer.

After installing it, i hear lesser bass compare to original speaker but of course the mid and high range sound is better.
I can hear better sound quality(all three low/mid/high range sound) if i keep my head near to steering wheel position. Otherwise, it has only vocal and high range sound but very minimum bass. It is like the sound remains in leg room cant reach out to passenget.

I had played around with the equaliser high Hz on low and high range while mid range keep it slightly lower than 0. Overall shape like a U.
I have also tried adjusting the sound to front or rear only. The result is original speaker has more bass but bad in vocal while OEM speaker wise versa.
Currently, i set it to F4(max is F7) to play hits song while R2 to play Remix.

I am planning to upgrade the sound system by stages including install head unit-->soundproof-->upgrade all 4 speaker+ additional tweeter and woofer--> add amp if needed.
At first i wanted to change the all 4 door speakers with budget OEM speakers before starting my progress. At the end, i choose to change coaxial first because there is too many OEM brands out there and I am not sure about the mohawk speaker quality.

I understand that with only 2 OEM speakers it wont help alot much to improve the sound quality. What confusing me is i like getting lost after changing the OEM speaker. As the low range sound is very soft, not wanting to have as good as with woofer as I have not added any yet. The sound is like the speaker with woofer but the woofer is off.

My question is:
-is this normal as it is budget speaker (aorund RM200++)?
-is there any way to improve the sound quality
-does the head unit play a role in this case?

thanks in advance and sorry for my bad england essay tongue.gif

I will start the progress and ignore the questions above.
I actually got my car last year. Today only I send the car to apply tinted(car comes with security film) and replace aftermarket HU.
I take The Dynavin DP8 and looking forward to upgrade to Infinity kappa 603cf and basslink.
Comment of the shop is this player has enough power with this combo, Amp is not needed. Not sure how true it is.
Dynavin DP8 has built in DSP, but the salesman told me it is actually just an equaliser.

After all, I have only changed the HU and the front speakers.
HU: Dynavin DP8 4+64GB (RM1055) - installed by Shop
Speakers: Mohawk M5-625 V2 (RM205) - DIY

Total Cost: 1260

Not going to spend more on it, at least not for now. rolleyes.gif

Few months been using it, this combo is doing good so far, only thing is sometimes the player's carplay will not be able to connect to my phone, it is only happens once or twice in a month.

It's a long and slow journey, but if you'd like to start, I recommend DSP & Component speakers first, very budget dependent bro, if you dont mind, i would like to know?

"head unit-->soundproof-->upgrade all 4 speaker+ additional tweeter and woofer--> add DSP/Amp if needed"

This is what I am planning to do.

For speaker, the shop has let me tested infinity kappa 603cf in their sound test room(not sure is this the name) and i am satisfy with the sound quality, either hits song or remix.

For soundproof, i am thinking to DIY if possible. A 2 layer soundproof should be fine, damping+insulation.

What do you think?

That path looks good for budget build, infinity kappa is mid-end SQ setup liao, to finish maybe need nearly 10k+ (for 3-way)
But if you feel fine with this price range:
I still feel DSP is a must in your setup because DSP functionality to control each speaker so it beam the sound to the right place like I mentioned earlier so you dont have to deal with problem you mentioned where you cannot feel the sound arrive to you.

You can talk to few other shops/installer what they think about it, especially the part where you mention the sound didn't arrive at your ears

Just to share my path
I went with this path "HU -> Component Upgrade -> + Under seat Subwoofer"

Then, last few months I upgraded my Under seat Subwoofer to 12' sealed box trunk, but I cannot feel the sub-bass arrive to my ear, it's in the car but not to me. So to fix this the installer recommended to install DSP, so I did which totally fixed this issue. So to finish off, I just recently completed 3-way active setup cross brands
Components : Adam's Digital Empire series
Subwoofer+monoamp : Infinity Primus 1270 + Primus 3000A mono
DSP : Adam's Digital 10ch Empire series

I totally haven't touched sound proofing yet, same like you I plan to DIY but haven't got time yet, but it was suggested to be done as well.
Coaxial (backseat) also I didnt change, disabled it because it messes with the 3-way setup sounds.

Some issue still retains: like how my HU (it has internal DSP) interferes with how my 3-way setup configured so I had to totally skip HU (should've went with HU with no internal DSP, so choose wisely/talk to your installer)

Also you can DM me your num if wanna discuss this faster  biggrin.gif

I have similar plan as yours. My budget built is mohawk. At first, i was thinking to use mohawk just to get me through during my building progress.

I am thinking to DIY soundproof first then only speaker-->sub woofer-->amp/DSP that's why I bought Mohawk coaxial. After installed this coaxial, i am thinking to get sub woofer. Now, I think i just have to accept whatever the Coaxial's sound quality is. Otherwise, I will spend more sweat.gif

infinity kappa series is enough for me. I estimate to fully build the infinity kappa series(2way+backseat+sub woofer) is around 5-6k. During the sound test, the shop told me the sound test is without DSP, I can add on the AMP that comes with DSP if I want.
Next week I am going to install the HU that come with internal DSP. The shop said the internal DSP is actually equaliser. So, I am not sure how percent true is the shop's info.

My friend has finished his set up on both his cars. Both cars the rear speaker have been disabled. The sound quality is top(to me lah) but not my cup of tea. I prefer stereo.

Anyway, will pm you.

Just aim for a DSP, get a good component set for the front (Pioneer component set can get about RM200+)
Just forget about the rear speakers, with a DSP you can do proper sound staging and the tuner will OFF the rear speakers so no point doing anything for the rear
For bass the best is get those that put in the boot, if not et a underseat subwoofer like Crossfire brand should be ok

Decent component set+sub woofer+DSP is what I gonna do. What I thought is the Mohawk can give more than the original speaker. Indeed, this set is doing better than original one in the mid and high Hz.
I understand that Coaxial is not a sub woofer. The no bass is like totally no bass. My friend ask me to take some time to burn in see if it can get any better.

Another thing is, not sure why this Mohawk give me noisy feel sweat.gif play in lower volume like not enough, play in higher volume after while my ear pain.

Now, I just take it and start the progress.

Mayb the stock headunit not enough power to drive the Mohawk speakers?  whistling.gif
Subwoofer will settle ur bass problems

you are right notworthy.gif i just changed the HU yesterday..the HU itself solved my "problems" rclxm9.gif
Beside the new HU's power, it allows me to adjust wider Hz range compare to original HU..
the sound quality is much more better even before playing with the equalizer..finally i can feel the different before and after changing the speaker cool2.gif

actually i research the answer few years back then. no time open forum
becos of 4 speakers. u were facing phase clash.
just force fader and balance to one unit, individual speaker potential (bass/mid/treble) will reveal without affected by others 3.
then u got to change phase degree by hu, dsp, or just plain swap between black & red wires.

Thanks for the infos, I gave up on the sound quality tongue.gif

have you considered a DSP? check out Audxeon.
I have 2 , 1 each in my cars. Cheap and good solution.
