The reason many Chinese solar panel manufacturers set up in MY is to avoid tariffs for exporting to US. manufacturing cost r generally 30% higher in MY. Many r closing down with the new imposed tariffs. Those panels sold in MY r those cheaper one imported from China.

Not tariff increased, US tariff exemption ended June.

but if you connect it to the grid you'll need approval

unless your panel + battery is not grid tied then no problem

After 3 days and 7 replies, no one answered what you were asking. I just love the general inability to read and comprehend in this country 😂

Ok, I don't know the answer to your question.
I would ask seller on Alibaba or Taobao, based on their experience if they would ship to our doorstep. Usually this would give an idea to what you try to find out. They are very strict when processing for export.

While it's true many had set up factories in Msia, does not mean quality from cheap china made is lower. I actually question more on Msia made quality due to apa pun boleh attitude of workers to middle management. Close to 30 years ago when Msia was once proud about own footing in electronics, factories I visited in China back then usually list Msia supplied electronics as questionable with high reject rates and always incur high cost of incoming QC and production stoppage caused by it.

This mentality of china is cheap is low quality is really taken tkk far.

Yes china manufacturers now faced two challenges: increased tariff for export and over capacity. When you have inventory with value diminishing you want to turn that to cash soonest possible even if it means sell at some losses

I don't recall solar panel and associated equipment like regulator charger or stuff like that needing any special permit to import for own off grid use.

But then it's Malaysia so won't be surprised if kastam and sirim suddenly look for your trouble

There should be no issue buying solar panels from overseas. But then how many are you buying? The weight and cost would probably trigger kastam first before SIRIM comes on. Then there are batteries. No way you could get them shipped easily.

The best option is buying local. There are from time to time we hear about some solar companies selling products or services in /K. But no one keeps track of these things. You just have to google through the pages to find them.

I wanted to buy from China about 8 years ago but gave up, I have the same worry like TS

I remember i asked a seller in taobao.com "how much is a complete setup where i can switch on my 2hp air-con daily for 24 hours"

Seller reply "it cost around 15K RMB" (around RM10k)

A few days later I asked a local solar company "it cost RM28K"

wanted to buy local but a bit to expensive from the quotations i got.
can save around 50% if i do self installation.

furthermore a lot of the local quotation i got don't include battery.

I asked the seller already, for the shipping they don't provide door to door.
so will have to arrange with my local forwarder once it arrives in Port Klang.

hopefully can clear customs without much hassle.

You can search in taobao "敏感货运送“, plenty of them, you can chat with them price, they can ship everything ( * not illegal items lah )
