There are a lot of rich hardcore Android fanboys here in Malaysia looking for a pure Android software experience smile.gif
*
I am not rich. The pure Android experience is just nice, can't get elsewhere already. OnePlus used to be good one, until they changed from OxygenOS to ColorOS. Now we have Nothing, which is great and have affordable models, but who knows.. might become ColorOS in the future. Hopefully they stay to clean or almost pure Android experience, and at the same time providing essential features like native app lock, dual app.. which Pixel lacks.

I thought there would be more excitement or hype here since we’re getting it officially now, but nope, hahaha…
Could be Google is a little late to the party biggrin.gif

Anyways, I would consider getting one, but not at 5k… I don’t think Google has the “heritage” in Malaysia to charge Samsung/Apple prices just yet, haha..
*
It's the chip, 5k for exynos.. must think twice, still can also maybe since this 4th gen, but better check reviews first. They very smart, didn't mention samsung in the even earlier.

QUOTE(ASoulNamedLeo @ Aug 14 2024, 09:04 AM)
PSA: to prospective Pixel 9 series buyers, this year the Tensor processor is still under Samsung manufacturing process.

Tensor processors from Pixel 10 onwards will be switching to TSMC manufacturing process (which could see significant battery improvements)
*
P10 will be TSMC, but still made by Google, and how do Google perform on their first attempt on things?

izzit google phone better than xiaomi?
want to give a try.
*
It is not the same for everyone.

If you like features and more value, it is xiaomi.

If you like features and willing to put more money, samsung.

If you just want pure Android, then it is Pixel. AI wise every other brand gonna catch up anyway.

QUOTE(yayiyu99 @ Aug 5 2024, 12:22 PM)
With Pixel, you can keep it for 5 years since it has better and longer software updates. With Vivo, you may only get 1 major software update and a poor security update. I owned Vivo X50 and X60 phones before, and I know the experience of terrible software updates. sad.gif
*
Vivo is the kind of thing to buy if you don't care about specs or just need a device for old parents.

parking dulu, still using pixel 5.... how is google pixel 7,8 battery performance average compare same other brand flagship last time?

iirc older days google battery is average or below average if compare to samsung, i stick with pixel because i like how the AI camera handle colour especially night scene. now i not sure

also back read a bit someone mentioned pixel 10 will use new chipset and maybe even better with battery performance? that's great!!
*
1/2 half of 2024 already, don't bother p7 or p8 unless budget is low, or only as 2nd phone. Both of it has battery issues, since it's from exynos.

Yeah p10 will use tsmc instead of samsung, no guarantee with battery performance but you can see difference between current samsung/tsmc manufactured chips. TSMC generally less heat than Samsung when you run task that needs power.

QUOTE(noos @ Aug 14 2024, 05:46 PM)
Pixel 11 even better!! Just wait for it!! icon_idea.gif
*
QUOTE(chriscym @ Aug 14 2024, 05:56 PM)
he is just being sarcastic. Wait for Pixel 12 lagi best
*
Actually, those who wants TSMC, p11 might be better.. because p10 is first time fully custom right? Can Google get it right the 1st time? There's no certainty. It is TSMC but still designed by Google. Still 50/50.

https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answe...%2Cpixel-pro-xl

the devil really is in the details for this :
[US, GB]: 6.8-inch Super Actua display (LTPO)
[IN, SG, MY]: 6.8-inch (171 mm) Actua display
[ROW]: 171 mm Super Actua display (LTPO)

Up to 2,000 nits (HDR) and up to 3,000 nits (peak brightness)

Google Answer on difference based on Pixel 8 :
Actua
Has a peak brightness of 2,000 nits and HDR brightness of 1,400 nits. The Pixel 8 has an Actua FHD+ OLED display.
Super Actua
Has a peak brightness of 2,400 nits and HDR brightness of 1,600 nits. The Pixel 8 Pro has a Super Actua LTPO OLED display

Saw a discussion on 1 of the Google Pixel Malaysia fb group, it seems that Pixel 9 Pro XL for Malaysia set screen is different?

Can refer to the spec stated here

Pixel 9 Pro XL supposed to be Super Actua display, but for Malaysia set it's only Actua display and don't have LTPO?
*
If difference and lower spec, we should get it cheaper! Hopefully we are not getting scammed lol

*
As long not telco set, should be able to unlock

If want to unlock, why even pixel in the first place?

Better just get xiaomi.. cheaper, better spec, and you can flash Lineage since you're about to unlock bootloader.

I think you can get xiaomi, unlock bootloader and isntall a port in gcam, and it should improve the camera?

Yes, pixel is best camera.. and most custom ROM also sort of stock Android, which Pixel already is, stock out of the box.

So why want to unlock bootloader?

I agree. I think another Android phone I used that is quite close to vanilla Android would be Sony but I won’t touch a Sony phone now - not at that kinda prices! Haha, that’s a good point about the chipmaker though. For my kinda usage though, my only concern is standby battery drain, which was a problem in Exynos chips of old. If that’s not an issue then I’m good.
*
Yes, if this g4 has no battery issues like it's previous models, can get it.. but we don't know yet, have to wait for reviews.

Sony so expensive, definitely no.

If it can't compete against gen 4, ok lah not big deal.. but by now it should be able to win if compete with gen 2 and also better thermal than tensor3

I think we have to wait for early users to post feedbacks..

If you use iMak TG, it barely covers the screen. And have to press harder a bit for fingerprint to detect. Really k-iMak ler. Thank God Shopee belanja. sweat.gif

That's not good, been using imak for previous phones for years. 2nd choice after Nillkin.

If I get the phone, I'll probably go with nillkin. Hope it don't disappoint.

Nillkin is good. Been also using them for years. During early days when they're new, they were cheaper.

The best tempered screen protector that you can consider is the Spigen Glas.tR EZ Fit selling for RM98 on Lazada. It comes with 2 x pieces and a aligner kit to ensure a accurate fit.

Alternative brands that i have used which are equally good but only sold via Amazon US are:

Anfilm and Omoton.
*
Have you tried Nillkin before?

Just wondering if anyone is having any issues with the phone overheating?

Especially when using Waze / Google Maps / Android Auto while driving or just taking videos / photos on a hot day
*
Welcome to Tensor technology

Anyway, yours is the regular or XL?

XL has improved thermal.

Hot day environment.. well, even tsmc can get a little hot.

Usually people in this thread gives negative review then it's verified poor already lol. Never trust exynos based tensor anyway
*
Those Pixel fans defends the tensor by saying "this is AI, not performance. google also said already. how many times must repeat, why still complain?"

Well if it is only AI, and not performance, and bad battery life, why sell at high performance price?

iPhone also gonna have Apple Intelligence.

So iPhone is close to Pixel price, has both AI and also performance. Pixel still stuck at AI, with premium price.

If Exynos tensor also they wanna sell price as close to iPhone, next year TSMC price gonna be above iPhone? Are they really that premium?

One of the reasons battery of drain would be the modem being incapable of picking up network signal and hence the phone have to keep searching for it all the time
*
Yes, that should be the cause in g3.

g4 suppose to fix it.

Now regret to pay more just for unlimited data for 5G, not many place got stable 5G,, and this will sure drain battery

Looks like something that Celcom can fix but they just don't want to. I also using Celcom but don't have the device yet biggrin.gif

I can't use any other telco.. Celcom is the best at my working place

I thought SIRIM pass (2024 devices) means voWIFI also supported, looks like I'm wrong.

Reviewers and people thinks Pixel would beat A17 Pro interms of SOC... Giving negative reviews

Yes it's underwhelming processer but this what they giving since Pixel launch. Even it's underwhelming or low in benchmarks still no issue in day to day usage. Battery life is efficient and AI processing handling very well it might better than Galaxy S24 Ultra AI. Consumers thinks if smartphone above RM5000 are eligible for playing game. Yes you can but if you really want play game why not buy ROG phone? Which cheaper than Pixel or iPhone.

Don't fall into review if you liked you had money go for it. If don't like it you always had chance to sell it or trade in.
*
ROG: just for gaming, not AI so yeah cheaper

Pixel: if we pay premium, we should get both AI and gaming.

Upcoming iPhone gonna be like.. almost same price with both AI + performance.

Meanwhile, tensor.. "it's AI, not performance."

QUOTE(sramesh @ Aug 30 2024, 07:12 PM)
My P9 battery life isn't great as well. It barely lasts a day with moderate use. This is with adaptive battery turned ON. My Nothing Phone 2 had better battery life and 5G coverage but below average camera which I couldn't live with, plus the 8+G1 seems snappier than Tensor G4.
*
Yeah.. phone 2 camera is horrible, especially if zoom right. Everything else with that phone is just nice! It's the camera that's annoying, and for being flagship, it should provide a good camera. I think the hardware is there, but they couldn't optimize the software.

So which one you gonna use? P9? Or back to Phone 2?

New update release. 😊

The update is seriously slow. A less than 20 MB update until now which already nearly 1 hour and still not even 50% complete. Faint...

I think this gonna be my first and last Pixel. It is premium price but not premium performance. Feel so dated using it! Even simple games from Lazada - Harvest for free gift that kind of so simple games also not smooth! OMG!

Can't compare with even 2 years ago any Samsung flagship or Apple iPhone Pro series.
*
Pixel update install has always been slow. I'm not tech person but after some reading I've made it has something to do with partition things. This is not new but it's strange Google still didn't do something about it until now.

My sincere Review of Google Pixel 9 Pro XL.

I am never any fans boy. I based on experience.
I am shock on why people love on Pixel, maybe last time it was cheap, then I accept.
Maybe it is because of vanilla UI, maybe of Camera. But... seriously the performance and battery life... hmm...
Now it is selling premium price but not that level.

Sorry if my short review make you unhappy or whatever, I am talk on my experiece and what should have by now.
*
Thank you for the review.
