I recently ordered my ROG Ally and am eagerly awaiting its delivery. In the meantime, I thought it would be beneficial to establish a dedicated club here, as I haven't come across any existing discussions on the ROG Ally.

Are there any other ROG Ally users in this forum? I would love to connect and share experiences. laugh.gif

It's running just fine for my needs. I bought the 2023 version, not the 2024 Ally X. Initially, I faced a few issues, but everything is smooth now.

Here are the modifications I've made:
1. Installed a 2280 SSD adapter.
2. Upgraded the original 512GB DRAM-less SSD to a 2TB KC3000 NVMe SSD.
3. Replaced the original backplate with a JSAUX Transparent Back Plate (to fit the upgraded SSD without modifying the original backplate).
4. Performed a clean installation of Windows instead of using ASUS Cloud Recovery.
5. Installed the 2024 Ally X drivers on my 2023 Ally.

None of these modifications void the warranty, and after doing step 4 and 5, everything is working perfectly.

Which model are you considering—the 2023 Ally or the 2024 Ally X?

Also, remember to register your Ally with your ASUS account after receiving it. This will extend the warranty by an additional year, giving you a total of 3 years instead of the original 2.

Was actually considering the Ally X with all the latest upgrades but in fact I just placed an order during 10/10 sales. tongue.gif

I assume for X version step 1 to 3 is not necessary but step 4 seems to be a good idea. Is it the normal window reformatting?

Steps 1 and 3 aren’t needed for Ally X.

It’s pretty much like reformatting, but I added an extra step by doing a secure erase on the SSD with Parted Magic. After that, I set up a USB installer for Windows 11 on my laptop to proceed with the installation.

wondering that reformatting the win11 on the Ally would need a laptop as per your step or that only for secure erase of your SSD?

p.s . not really a software pro in this regards doh.gif

I'm actually working around Subang area, definitely can arrange a TT section. But my device will only be available by month end or next month due to pre-order.

Apologies for the earlier miscommunication. To ensure your Ally X functions correctly, the following two ASUS applications are still required:
1. MyASUS
2. Armory Crate SE

Additionally, it’s recommended to have a Microsoft account (e.g., hotmail.com, outlook.com, or live.com) ready.
While a local account can still be used, signing in with a Microsoft account is the optimal choice, as it allows you to lock the device to your account for enhanced security and accessibility. thumbsup.gif

How does it benefit compare between clean installation vs ROG factory windows?
Can i revert back to Asus original windows later (by using Cloud Recovery)?

The clean windows installation will use the Window Key embedded on the motherboard?

Definitely

Yes. It will use the embedded key on the motherboard
I however, use my own Windows 11 Pro key to install Windows 11 Pro instead of using the embedded Windows 11 Home key

Just collected all the voucher available that day and apply it during check out. My final price is at around RM3.4k, your price also considered not too bad then.

Mine supposed to be pack for delivery by 30/10, left few more days shall see if there is any update later.
