In China it is competing against the Atto3 equivalent, so can roughly use that as a reference in terms of the price range.

PETALING JAYA: National automotive company Proton Holdings Bhd has named its first-ever Malaysian electric vehicle (EV) as Proton e.MAS 7, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the country’s automotive history. A C-segment sports utility vehicle, e.MAS 7 underscores Proton’s commitment to the government’s EV agenda which calls for national carmakers to introduce such vehicles by 2025. Since the announcement of the e.MAS brand name and the subsequent introduction of 18 Proton e.MAS outlets in June, Proton New Energy Technology Sdn Bhd (Pro-Net) has expanded its reach to a total of 29 outlets. Pro-Net aims to have 25 Proton e.MAS showrooms operational before the public launch of the e.MAS 7. Pro-Net, a fully owned subsidiary of Proton, was set up to spearhead sales and distributorship for smart vehicles and its own future new energy vehicle offerings. Co-developed with Geely, Proton e.MAS 7 is designed to cater to the needs of modern lifestyles offering ample space and utility. It is the first model to feature the advanced Global Modular Architecture platform, ensuring superior performance, handling, and comfort. With dimensions measuring 4,615mm in length, 1,901mm in width, 1,670mm in height and a wheelbase of 2,750mm, it offers a spacious interior wrapped by a contemporary exterior design. “Our goal with the Proton e.MAS 7 is to fulfil our promise of delivering Malaysia’s first national all-electric vehicle. With the groundbreaking technology embedded in it, we are confident it will not only impress with its innovative breakthroughs but also deeply resonate with our audience on an emotional level. As we eagerly anticipate its imminent presence on the roads, we are excited to reveal more about the Proton e.MAS 7 in the coming months,” said Proton CEO Dr Li Chunrong. Seems UK folks eagerly awaits...
LOL https://uk.motor1.com/news/729581/proton-uk-return-rumours/ https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars...acked-expansion Proton to return to UK in Geely-backed expansion Significant Chinese investment for Malaysian car maker fuels major global export push by Greg Kable 7 August 2024 Proton is on the verge of a major global export expansion that is set to take it back to the UK market, sources close to its CEO, Li Chunrong, have revealed. The expansion, which is also planned to encompass new right-hand-drive markets throughout Asia and South Africa as well as a return to Australia and New Zealand, aims to significantly boost Proton’s global sales following the establishment of a new headquarters and manufacturing base currently under construction in Tanjung Malim in western Malaysia. Known as Automotive Hi-Tech Valley (AHTV), the facility is part of a multibillion-pound investment by joint owners Geely and Malaysian industrial conglomerate DRB-HICOM Berhad. The added production capacity it will provide is set to play a pivotal role in Proton’s long-held plans to expand its global sales, Autocar has been told. “With the investments in place, Proton will have the means to return to markets it departed, while also entering new markets," a source said. No official timeframe for a return to the UK market has been revealed, though Autocar has been told major export markets will be reached “later this decade”. The brand sold models in the UK from 1989 until 2014. In 2023, Geely announced plans to invest up to £3.5 billion in the development of AHTV. Later, Malaysian prime minister Anwar Ibrahim said the actual investment figure from Geely was closer to £7.9bn. Geely has yet to officially confirm the reported doubling of its investment in Proton. However, recent moves have significantly extended the scope and appeal of the Malaysian car maker’s line-up with badge-engineered versions of some of Geely's best-selling Chinese models. Proton currently sells four models based on the Geely Binyue, Boyue, Haoyue and Ermgrand, badged as the X50, X70, X90 and S70. It also continues to produce three traditional models from its former operations with Mitsubishi – the Saga, Persona and Iriz. Additionally, it has established a new EV brand under the name e:MAS. The brand's first model, the e:MAS 7, is based on the Geely Galaxy E5 SUV. The name e:MAS denotes the words electric and Malaysia. The launch of the e:MAS brand comes after the recent opening of a new Proton research and development centre within Geely’s Research Institute in Hangzhou, China, in April. Dovetailed with an existing research and development centre in Malaysia, it is planned to contribute to the development of successor models for the Saga, Persona and Iriz as well as platform integration of other future Proton models. It will also develop market-specific chassis tuning for export models, according to Proton CEO Li Chunrong. While rival Chinese car makers, including SAIC, BYD, Great Wall Motor and Guangzhou Automotive Group (GAC), are busy establishing production facilities for right-hand-drive models with the view to exports in Thailand, Geely’s decision to invest in Proton is claimed to bring strategic trade advantages. “The draw that drove them to invest is the benefit from Malaysia’s trade relations with countries such as the US and European Union,” said Ibrahim. Cars Bikes Trucks Proton's first EV not a simple Geely rebadge By Zuraimi Abdullah August 12, 2024 @ 2:01pm Proton e.MAS 7, once it is publicly launched by the year-end, will enter the local EV market that is becoming increasingly competitive. Proton e.MAS 7, once it is publicly launched by the year-end, will enter the local EV market that is becoming increasingly competitive. KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's maiden electric vehicle (EV) was named and previewed recently and fittingly, it was by the country's first national carmaker Proton Holdings Bhd. Proton e.MAS 7, once it is publicly launched by the year-end, will enter the local EV market that is becoming increasingly competitive. It will compete with models such as BYD Atto 3, smart #1, GAC Aion Y, BMW iX1 and Chery Omoda E5 in size, while being only slightly more petite than the Tesla Model Y. A total of 10,159 EVs were sold in 2023, marking a staggering 286 per cent increase from the previous year, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association. This surge, while impressive, still placed EVs at a nascent stage compared to the broader automotive market, which saw nearly 800,000 units sold in total last year. At its media preview on Aug 2, Proton claimed that the e.MAS 7 was not merely a job. It was the result of a deeper collaborative effort with strategic partner Geely. Visually, the e.MAS 7 shares design cues with Geely Galaxy E5, which was laumched in China in May. This includes slim headlamps, air curtains highlighted by C-shaped light strips, flush pop-out door handles and full-width taillights. However, it is distinguished by the new e.MAS logo on its front, a modified version of the "harimau" symbol, and the Proton script beneath the taillights. According to the national carmaker, the development process involved 230 Proton engineers and designers. They contributed to a total of 700,000 man-hours and rigorous testing spanning 10 million kilometres, possibly pointing to the Galaxy E5's overall development cycle. Proton referred to the e.MAS 7's platform as the Global Modular Architecture (GMA) in its press materials. However, it seems to be a rebranding of Geely's GEA platform. This means that the new incoming Proton models already in development will inherit the characteristics of the latter platform. The GEA platform is an evolution of Geely's Sustainable Experience Architecture that underpins everything from the smart #1 to the Zeekr 009 and is described as the "world's first four-in-one AI intelligent architecture". GMA was first highlighted in June by Proton, which planned to develop a range of models from GMA 01 to GMA 06, including both EVs and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. The e.MAS 7, designated as GMA 01, spearheaded the lineup. The e.MAS 7, Proton said, boasts the world's leading 12-in-1 intelligent electric propulsion system, setting a new standard in its class by seamlessly integrating multiple functions into a single, highly efficient unit. It also features a groundbreaking cell-to-body battery architecture, which enhances structural strength, increase interior space, improves stability in high-speed cornering, and overall handling. There is also an innovative Flyme Auto Connectivity System that integrates with the local infotainment head unit system. Proton chief executive officer Dr Li Chunrong said the company's goal with the e.MAS 7 is to fulfill its promise of delivering Malaysia's first national all-electric vehicle. "With the groundbreaking technology embedded in it, we are confident it will not only impress with its innovative breakthroughs but also deeply resonate with our audience on an emotional level. "As we eagerly anticipate its imminent presence on the roads, we are excited to reveal more about the Proton e.MAS 7 in the coming months," he said at the preview. The e.MAS 7, measuring 4,615 mm in length, 1,901 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height with a 2,750 mm wheelbase, positions itself among the larger EVs in the market. Pricing will be a critical factor for the e.MAS 7's market positioning. In its home market, the Geely Galaxy E5 was priced between 112,800 yuan and 148,800 yuan (about RM69,700 and RM92,000), and offered in eight different colours. We can expect the e.MAS 7 to carry a slight premium. This post has been edited by EnergyAnalyst: Aug 13 2024, 08:31 AM |

QUOTE Pricing will be key. Perodua and Proton are expected to set the starting price of their EVs below $25,000, markedly lower than BYD and Tesla cars, which are priced above $30,000, Abhik Mukherjee, auto analyst at Counterpoint Research, told Rest of World. BYD and Tesla together account for nearly 80% of EV sales in Malaysia. Read more at“To boost the sector, Malaysia needs its domestic brands … Proton and Perodua can provide tough competition by offering their EVs at a lower price point,” he said. “Given Perodua and Proton’s current market share, it should be relatively easy for them to sell their EVs, as both brands are well-established and trusted.” Malaysia is also taking other steps to boost the domestic industry. The government will discontinue tax exemptions on imported EVs by the end of 2025. In July, authorities said that EVs assembled in Malaysia would not be subject to a minimum price of 100,000 ringgit ($23,000), an attempt to encourage foreign EV makers like BYD and Tesla to set up local assembly. https://restofworld.org/2024/proton-perodua...la-malaysia-ev/ |
