It is Kia. 😅😅

Still cant move on from tis stupid thing. Back then, I earn 4k-6k per month. Which is I think quite good as fresh graduated kid.

But ‘poverty mindset’ of me kick in, which explain why I decides to buy old car instead get new car. And I lost lots opportutnities. No proper dating, no gathering bujang with friends, malu join family gathering because I stay flat and ride a bike.

I used to date a doctor from HKL but I decides to end it. Because have imposter syndrom, who whoudl date a guy who ride a bike? 😅 this is my another regret because she is a fine lady, smart and we actually complamebt each other.

Simple say, I wasting my precious youth because this stupid car. 😂

Poverty mindset is very dangerous man..

True, but so is the YOLO mentality… so a balanced approach is best

My regret? Cars. I’m a sucker for them. And the worst thing is that I can afford them so I don’t feel the pain.

Over the past 20-25 years, I’ve bought multiple cars at the same time… my personal record is owning 4 BMWs - an F30, F13 M6, F15 x drive and F02 at the same time. All bought brand new, and bought in Singapore, so go figure how much money I wasted.

Now, I only have 2 cars in Singapore and 2 in Sydney… slightly less insane, but only marginally so.

Maybe for sharing and learning here.

My mistake was not learning to save up earlier in my career.  back then was a jolly CC user , have expensive hobbies and always travel for fun to and from (i'm guessing u call YOLO these days). Dunno all my money went even though worked a long time.

I wish I realized and be more financially aware sooner than later.

Second mistake is buying a car and house that is not affordable  .

I wish back then I used a cheaper car, as depreciation kills the value and fast forward 10 years all sort of problems came out .

Although the house I bought is in a decent location, I felt that it was overpriced. Back then it was all the rage for "Property investment". If I had the chance, I would undo this mistake by not buying a house at all, and instead just park the savings in gold and use it to buy house for own self stay .

What did you do that you regretted? Past cannot change anymore, perhaps we could state this as a reminder for ourselves.

Even if you can turn back time, you still won’t be rich rich.

You chose gold as an investment. The hell

No financial mistake yet. I always live and spend like b40.

My current financial hurdle is my parent’s debt which takes a huge chunk of my salary.

That’s the big financial mistake there without you even realising that. Been on exact same situation and it was never ending story until I put an end to it. Unless it’s really a life and death situation which they got themselves into debt.

Started my career at 2008 and up till 2018, 90% of my actions related to money were only regrets.

Long list: Getting 50k worth of car with 20k annual income, uncontrolled CC expenses, PLs, paying parents stupid debt, buying high rise for own stay in mid 20’s with out research location and developer, buying investment properties again without research, never learn about proper investing, selling bitcoins at dirt cheap price, buying unnecessary gadgets, and the list might go on.

However, during these 10 years period, I really focused on my career and able to get couple of very good hikes due to job hopping. When got my first kid at 2018, I got knock on the head.

Told myself, there no way I can undo what have been passed, but there is always a way to overcome the situation. Cut back to 2024, completely debt free except primary home and a car (which valued less than half of my current P.A), very decent investment portfolio, a good understanding on financial management and above all, have gratitude on the life lessons.

The reason I want to share this, there will be always those 2am thoughts about, “what if”, “would have”, “could have been”, etc.. These thoughts do more harm to mental health than the actual financial mistakes.

So let go the past and focus on future.. until Time Machine invented

Back then was pretty greenhorn so I made quite a number of foolish decisions. Paper hands.

Learned alot once I became more financially mature; now price dips don't phase me at all as I'll DCA with my funds.

Life mistake:

1) Took hobby Diploma and Degree. End up working in a job that I hate every single day.

Been working in this field for so long. Want to change field, but I have no idea what I want to do.

Financial mistake

1) Took a Personal loan due to financial and career mistake that I've done previously. I have no choice during that time.

2) Didn't save a lot. Now I'm in the process of building up the savings.

3) Bought a new car and now I feel suffer paying for it. If I know that I would end up in current situation, I should stick using the old car. The reason I purchased a new car is I work quite far from home. So I need a reliable car at least. My old car keep facing problem in the situation where I need to use it urgently.

But what to do, I have suffer for few years of paying the new loan, but at least, I don't have to worry about the car issue for a while.

I DCA-ed my whole net worth from 2016-2022 to BTC only

Really good times. I regret didn’t get a side hustle and dump even more money inside.

Smart choice. I mean most of us during our younger days either wouldn't give a toss or lack the hindsight of crypto. And now you mentioned it, I just remembered I sold my laptop after mining some BTC on it in 2010 laugh.gif

Side hustles can either be a hit-or-miss. One of my coworkers ventured into an F&B business and started hemorrhaging cash not long after.

House Loan.
Specifically the tenure, should've batten down the hatches and stuck through 10year period instead of the maximum 35years.

Our local proverb rings true (at least to me), "bersusah-susah dahulu, bersenang-senang kemudian" - short term pain for long term gain(debt-free).
