Need a sim card for car GPS device. Do not care much for data or call balance.
Just need long life validity without need to top up.

Previously i used Unifi prepaid but 1 day last year it stopped working on the device. But on phone the data works.
Then I switched to DIGI Next prepaid, was able to get Super Long Life. But not it ended and no option to get SLL again in Box of Surprise.

I am reading XOX and Hotlink Pantas 365.
I prefer Hotlink as XOX seems complicated.

Anyone using these 2 for GPS device or car sim? Would be good to know it works.

I was not exposed much on Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) like XOX, Tune Talk, REDtone, redONE, Altel, etc. I was on redONE for a while before switching back to Celcom (now CelcomDigi) to be able to subscribe to cheap about RM40 laugh.gif . I'm not using data except for payment like e-wallet. So usage just probably 100MB + per month I guess.

For the GPS I use Maxis one because I only heard about it. Anyway, I think it is good to subscribe to main carrier service instead of MVNO. For me MVNO probably has limited bandwidth allocation from main telco but probably they have less subscribers hmm.gif

The Maxis one is good because you pay RM30 for 1 year validity. The grace period is no less than 1 month I think (forget about it). This is just to keep the number valid for 1 year even if you ran out of data. For data you need to purchase separately which can be
2GB Internet for 365 days at RM6
4GB Internet for 365 days at RM10
10GB Internet for 365 days at RM20

Went to Maxis and you can select which number you like. The initial payment is RM50. I think RM30 validity and the RM20 for data. 10GB? forgot.

I was confused too because so many article like Maxis discontinue but still there. You can go to Maxis and ask.

Port in? Oooo.. I did not port in because I use the car HU that can install SIM card. It is immediate unlike using phone as hotspot. Last time I use device (MiFi) for hotspot but sometime it is just too slow for me laugh.gif

I think it got activated within a day. Go get explanation from salesman.

I got my hotlink sim from a shopee seller for my car’s head unit (dynavin).

Got it activated with a ‘Pelan Perpaduan’ that costs rm30 and lasts for 180 days with 30GB of data (max speed 3mbps).

It’s enough for my waze and google maps usage.

I think TuneTalk also offers rm99 plan for 360 days. I may consider this after my hotlink sim expires.

i am using XOX
bought 1 year validity for rm25
then i bought season pass for 10gb
and set it to auto-subscribe/use 500mb monthly plan
the 10gb lasts me 10 months, then i will then buy another 10gb season pass
and the 10gb data u can get in shopee for around rm15

so total per year for gps (500mb monthly) would be roughly rm25+rm15 for the first 10months
or even better to get 40gb for around rm40.
this 40gb season pass can lasts 80 months so u just buy the 12months validity for rm25 the next time validity expires

everything is in the apps, so u can set and forget
but check on it once a while to see it

BTW did you monitor how much data your protrack is using?
When I was on Digi Next, it only used like 11.30mb the whole year.
Below is the status of my card from the day i put in and never removed tille expiry today.
I believe the device does not use data but more the GPRS location thingy?

Interesting, hotlink old pantas plan lasts 365 days without any long life addon payment?

How much will data cost? I use around 3-5 GB a month.

yes, but the internet is needed everytime you connect to the device to track it
