I’ve just renovated my old house.
1. All brand new tiles on floor and wall
2. All new paint
3. All new kitchen to room cupboards
4. New furnitures

House is now ready and I wanted to move in earlier but was told to wait for 1-2 months because for formaldehyde. Is it really that serious?

I saw a lot of formaldehyde removal spray and absorber gel being sold online. Are they effective?

Anyone knows or have any experience on this? Can share?

Yeah. It's that bad. It's from those processed boards if not wrong.

Even with removal product you probably can't get everything clean
With formaldehyde you better off taking the safer route.

it's VOC, the only way is to keep the house well ventilated to allow the VOC to evaporate faster.

Those fumes are quite lasting. 1-2 months time is optimistic. If untreated boards, from those ikea coloured metal racks bought online, a finishing coat of elastomeric paint can completely seal up those fume leaks.. That's what I did. If don't apply a finishing coat, it'll probably take years for those boards to finish fuming.

After renovation, its usually dusty. Take your time to get some foreign workers to clean the entire house, then move in.

Actually its not only formaldehyde fumes from the boards, there's also PFAS fumes from the adhesive they've used. I bought 8 of those ikea coloured racks online, placed them all in 2 rooms, the fuming had gotten so bad till I can't breath & open my eyes when I'm in those rooms. That's where I googled out and found the reason why..

Bring as many fan. Blow it, open all windows. Thats the only way.

I kena before in my hostel. Room brand new renovated. The smell last for 6 months cos i got no way to leave the door open for ventilation as i have very packed schedule. Do not turn on ur aircon or it will stuck inside there for VERY long time.

That's PFAS fumes. The damage's is best when you add those cheap/expensive maggi mee floor mats + a bottle of car perfume. All fuming like nobody's business and then you shut yourself in with air con while driving. Lol.

I used baking soda, and dissolved it in water.

Wipe down all the cabinets and new furniture.

After that, no longer smell anything.

Actually its not CN, it's the WHOLE furniture, renovation industry are ALL using these good shit. No choice. Where got so many real untreated NATURAL wood slices to use. Even if there is, how many can afford 100% untreated NATURAL wood slices for house parts and fittings..

Actually don't even have to douse themselves with synthetic chemicals. Just apply some under own nose is more than enough. Like how you apply medical ointment. Ownself shiok the smell, don't need to waste money.

Have you ever brought home a new piece of furniture and noticed a strong, foul-smelling odor that sticks around for days, even weeks? Thanks to something called volatile organic compounds (or VOCs), it’s not uncommon.

VOCs are essentially chemical compounds—many of them human-made—with high vapor pressure and low water solubility, so they’re often used as industrial solvents for products like paint, office equipment, building materials, and furnishings.

VOCs evaporate over time (some take longer than others, but they generally peak with new products), becoming a gas at room temperature and releasing into the air through a process known as “off-gassing.”

The smell could be coming from your upholstery being treated with flame retardants, chemicals to protect the fabric, or the varnish from your wooden furniture. These solvents range from trichloroethylene and fuel oxygenates to chloroform and formaldehyde.

It usually came from strong smell at the carpentry cabinet/gum.

If you using Signature which their cabinet are pre-module from the factory i think the damage are lesser than those who cut on-site.

boost the activated charcoal/ionizer with ventilation fan to get those voc, this ought to speed up the job.

Jst remember that the byproduct of removing formaldehyde is h2o, aka water.

Unless u hv equipment to draw out the water, u need to ventilate ur home/cabinets to allow these water vapour to dissipate. Otherwise ur door hinge or any metal/steel parts will GG.
