QUOTE(fada @ Aug 1 2013, 09:43 PM)
Hi,

Just sharing some knowledge that i have about GR

Yes, GR are prone to 热痱 (Re Fei) or hot spots due to their thick fur and also our weather here can cause it so make sure you check on your GR skin frequently for any hot spots
Here are some tips to treat them: http://www.petmd.com/dog/care/evr_hot_spot...ey#.Ufph9tKmi4E

Staying inside the house is of course much cooler and it might help a little but still you will need to keep an eye out for any excessive scratching from your puppy. I normally check my GRs when i bring them into my house during the day... they think it's playtime with all the rubbing and petting though smile.gif. This link might help:
http://www.all-about-goldens.com/dog-groom...structions.html

It is possible for you to groom your GR yourself- bath and combing your puppy. I myself don't send my dogs to the groomers for any cut cause I feel that they look best in their natural state with their fur.. but i do trim their fur if they get too long.. and my GRs loves to be groom and occasionally a short trim but this is up to you if you feel that you want a professional to do the cutting and all smile.gif

My dogs bath once every two weeks or sometimes once a month, depending where they have been playing smile.gif

One tip i receive from another GR owner, is that to watch the GR eye. If there is a lot of 'eye shit' then your dog is heaty. You can let her drink some coconut water to cool down her body. I give coconut water to my GRs too btw when it's too hot, or when their 'eye shit' gets alot. My GRs loves to drink cold coconut water smile.gif. Then you can see their pee turn from yellow to very light yellow colour . You can also put a bowl of water for your puppy so that she can drink anytime. Just remember to change the water frequently

And lastly, have fun with your puppy, she's still very young, 6 weeks. Give her loads of attention and love cause definitely she will miss her mom. Make sure you give her good food and lots of loving and she will stick with you all the time and be your very best friend.

And more very important thing, since she is so young now, make sure she doesn't go and smell other dogs poop/shit when you take her out for walk. Her immune system is still weak so the dog poop may contain virus and all, so avoid them.

Have fun with your puppy smile.gif

Hahaha.. I also didn't know until my neighbour who is also a GR owner gave me the tip... but it is a very good tip... my GRs doesn't suffer from heaty issues anymore... and their pee isn't yellow anymore cause i give them coconut water when i see them getting alot of 'eye shit'  tongue.gif

How about the coconut meat? Do you give your GR have it as well? tongue.gif

i had try several vet b4.. they only said take times to recover..yes, still heavy shedding.. once i allow my gr entering my hse.. whole floor full of fur... sad.gif
*
May I know where are you from? As far as I know, natural balance do not have kibbles for large dog, previously my golden taking natural balance and he is underweight. My dog have serious shedding prob too but after taking Go! Salmon, everything is improving smile.gif

QUOTE(ck_boon @ Apr 7 2014, 09:38 AM)
my old black retriever seem no motivation, very very lazy, after his partner died few months ago
eat also dunwan, do wat also no mood, wat to do?
*
Try to bring your dog to walk as often as possible? What is her favorite thing to do? Walk? Play with toys? Tug? Squeeky toy? Play with her, she needs attention smile.gif same as people when lose their partner.

QUOTE(lovehewit @ Apr 7 2014, 07:29 PM)
I'm considering to get a gr, but I read too much about the shedding which really worries me a bit. I don't have allergy problem but if it is as per what others said that the hair will stick on food, mouth, cloth, toilet everywhere, then it could be a problem. Is it really that bad? Body odour bad too?
*
Do not get a GR if you are worried about shedding as they really do shed a lot. Consider less shedding dog breeds like poodle.

I have a 1Y10M GR, playful yes - but she is so timid!! =S

She is so afraid of everything(ball rolling also ==") especially other dogs when I'm walking her in the evening.

Whenever see another, she'll terus enter ;
1) Defend position, growl damn loud (no bark)
2) Run for your life we're gonna die!! (runs back home at the speed of light)

Another problem is..after doing her 'big business', she malas to continue walking - straight wanna go home.

How to I;
1) make her have more courage? she's so afraid of everything =(
2) take her for a long walk without her running home after her 'big business'
*
Hope im not too late to reply sad.gif

Do you bring her out to social with other dogs? For an example, you can bring her to desapark city to social with more dogs, always on leash if you are worried that she will run away. Always praise her and let her know it is fine for other dogs to smell her butt.

Do you leash her when you bring her out for a walk? If you does then it should not be a problem to control her when u are outside :/ if you are not, then get a leash and bring her out as often as possible, walk to somewhere new which she's not familiar with, always pat her to let her know that she's doing a great job and praise her with very manja voice tone tongue.gif i always do this to my dog and it works.

hi, i going to adopt a stray dogs to teman him, how to make it the dog wont fighting or become friendly?
*
How old is the stray dog? Sex? If your dog its male then getting a female is better but must be spayed la.. Depends on ur dog behavior actually, does he growl when dogs come near its food? Is he friendly towards other dogs? Have u tried taking him out to socialize with other dogs? At first he will jealous, try letting them socialize n see how it goes, always leash the dog u are introducing to ur dogs, so that when they fight u can always carry the dog away sweat.gif

QUOTE(GravityFi3ld @ Apr 11 2014, 09:45 AM)
dare not to bring to desa park, confirm she will #1 stand very very still (must be defend mode), then #2 start growling very garang laugh.gif
I bring her out to jalan in evening on a leash..she don't let any dog near her, got friendly German-shep(with owner), I went to pet the German and she watch..then when the German go near her, she angry liao and was pulling away - like "Run for your life!!!!!!!"
*
Wah, she has bad past experience with dogs? If thats the case then try try try to intro her a small dogs first? You can always try to let her be friend with small dogs in a closed area so that she will not feel to run for her life when the place is limited laugh.gif

I see, still the same technique i'll use if my dog is timid biggrin.gif give it a try

The last post was on 2011. Instead of page, we should create a group in facebook. A group is better as we can share photos and thoughts. Yea! We should create one! Or you prefer it to be name as LYN gr group is fine too. Its just that im worried others do not know that our group is from malaysia sweat.gif

QUOTE(shinn911 @ Mar 20 2019, 10:58 AM)
hi my GR has quite a serious hip dysplasia and the vet recommend to take him go swimming to strengthen the muscles, is there any dog pools around PJ area??

vet recommended a place in damansara heights but dont wanna travel so far.
*
Look for Bark-a bout. they have a big swimming pool there, my golden now age 7, his hips is getting weaker too, what i do is reduce his weight and feed stronger glucosamine. He's been taking glucosamine at the age of 1. how old is your GR?

Have you join Golden Retriever Club - Malaysia in Facebook? smile.gif

You can ask a lot of questions there and a lot owner are sharing their experience, photos etc.

Let me know when you request to join, and also answer all the questions ya, haha, we automatically reject everyone that did not answer the questions.
