Hey guys,

seems like this thread is pretty quiet... last post was from Oct 19!

Anyway, we just got a goldie, named her Hazel... currently D2 of life in our house (she's 8 weeks and 3 days old) and trying pretty damn hard to potty train her.

Problem is she pees almost always unexpectantly... we've put her crate facing the bathroom with the door open so that she will get used to the fact that she can sleep in the crate and eliminate on the bathroom floor... Can't take her out yet coz of incomplete vaccinations sad.gif

Just want to ask for your opinion about 1 thing;

Where do you guys keep your goldie? Outside? I'm just worried about my goldie being poisoned, stolen, etc...

Anyway, great to join the club smile.gif Here's a pic of her...

hi there. you've got a very nice golden pup. congrats on your new pet. i had ben 2 yrs ago. i can consider myself lucky coz when ben peed in the house, when he saw me cleaning up his mess, it only takes him once to get it that he is in the wrong and never peed in the house again. that time onwards, he would call us to take him out to let him pee and poo.
goldens are smart, they'll know when they made a mistake and try not to do it again.

when ben was younger, i put him inside coz he was afraid of loud noises as he's not used to the environment yet and sleep in the room. once he's bigger, and more brave, we let him stay out for few nights and he is doing alright till now.
i'm not worried bout him getting stolen coz he's got another companion, cross-mixed rottweiler with doberman. so both are doing fine together and he's a good guard dog as well.

my golden retriever losing her fur on her elbow n the skin is red ... what can i do ????

take her to the vet. i had the same experience till now. goldens are prone to this. coz they tend to use their front elbows to get up and scratch against cement floor will make it worse. i had ben on cream to put on both of his elbows till now. hope this helps.

thanks for the feedback guys

Hazel is that she knows she has to pee at a certain spot in the bathroom. i leave her there with the cage door opened so she can go in and out and run around the bathroom when we are at work. She pees alright and poos correctly when we are not around

problem is when she's outside of the bathroom, she never knows how to get back inside to pee/poo... sigh.

i know she ain't stupid coz I taught her how to sit, lie down and shake hand all within a few hours!

i can't use puppy pads coz she tears u everything in sight sad.gif

laugh.gif my girl also like that when she is inside the playpen she know to do her business at the tray, but once let her out she will simply do it on the floor.. i think it take time slowly she will get inside when she want to do business..

As for biting, u must teach her before too late.. when seeing her tearing the pad or anything, shout at her NO!

a trap? what kind of trap?

Just went down to see my Hazel at 6am... the whole designated floor for pee is full! Think I should restrict her water because she seems to drink water for fun

puppies love to drink water. i have the same problem like you. they are still young, don't know how to control their bladder so they tend to pee a lot. sternly say NO to her when she do something wrong or was about to do it. then she'll know when to stop the bad habit.

was thinking of getting that... just worried that she will get confused since she is used to peeing on the bathroom floor dy. but then again was thinking that the floor is tile, outside floor also tile... so she won't know the difference.

whenever i scold her, she will show attitude and walk away and not come near me... so bad la. my old shihtzu so much better... at least she's more affectionate. dunno why this girl so stubborn and very distant...

Added on November 16, 2010, 12:10 pmgoing abit nuts though... she stepped on her poo this morning. I only went out for 1 hour and she caused the whole bathroom to be stained with poop... first time this is happening. can't imagine when i go to work, what will happen!

so weird that shih tzu is like number 70+ in smartness and GR is number 4, and it's harder to train a GR... LOL

yeah trying my best to be patient smile.gif

how old is ur GR now?

Added on November 18, 2010, 10:17 ammy golden has not completed her 3 vaccinations (only done 2). We were advised not to put her outside just yet so I've set up a small den for her in the bathroom. It is a rectangular bathroom with a door on the side and another at the beginning. Her cage is put outside the side door (thus it's in the middle) and she usually sleeps near the entrance, and pee/poop at the other end. All is well and good but these days when we go to work (for pretty long hours, she's usually alone from 8-5plus), she will do her business as usual at the toilet end but there have been times when we come home and see her stepped over her poo and dirtied the entire bathroom along with herself...

any advise on this? I was thinking of getting a pee pad so it can absorb her pee and at least she will have more space to poo, that is if my theory is correct - she can't poo properly at her spot because the pee is already all over and she doesn't want to step on it on purpose. but how much can a pee pad absorb?
