The Kingdom is a 2007 film directed by Peter Berg and starring Jamie Foxx, Chris Cooper, Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman, Ashraf Barhom, Kyle Chandler, and Ali Suliman. It was co-produced by Academy Award nominated director Michael Mann. The film is fictional, but inspired by bombings at the Riyadh compound on May 12, 2003 and the Khobar housing complex on June 26, 1996 in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The story follows a team of FBI agents who are sent to investigate the bombing of a foreign-workers facility.

Synopsis
Terrorists attack a compound for foreign workers in Riyadh, killing over a hundred people including Special Agent Francis Manner (Kyle Chandler)-- the FBI's lead agent in Saudi Arabia. While the FBI is hamstrung by diplomatic sensitivities and unable to send agents to investigate, Special Agent Fleury (Jamie Foxx) takes matters into his own hands and leads a team to investigate. With agents Janet Mayes (Jennifer Garner), Adam Leavitt (Jason Bateman), and Grant Sykes (Chris Cooper) at his side, he hopes to discover who was responsible for the bombing within a week's time. However, the team find their investigation of the scene stalled by bureaucracy and their presence, as American outsiders, unwelcome. They eventually gain the trust of Saudi Arabian police officer Colonel Faris Al Ghazi (Ashraf Barhoum) and his colleague Sgt Haytham (Ali Suliman), with whom they work to find the perpetrator. As Ghazi and the agents close on the terrorist responsible for the bombing, their convoy is attacked and Leavitt is abducted. The agents then move in on the terrorist leader's neighborhood. Al Ghazi is killed and Agent Fleury and his team return home.

this show is pretty good. well, there are some unbelievable scenes where the FBIs were pretty damn accurate while the terrorists couldnt hit anything even at close range and stuff like that, but the story is suprisingly good.

i was expecting a bunch of western stereotypes of the muslims, but it was handled pretty well. basically it shows that everybody hates somebody for a reason, not just bcoz they read something in a holy book or bcoz their boss says so.

Better than what I expected. Not your typical western sterotype 'someone" always claims that you were brainwashed with.

I spent the whole time anticipating a sudden headshot that never happened. Makes me wonder, why can't terrorist have snipers?

Terrorists do have snipers.

Just that if snipers are put in a movie the story ends instantly cause every main character is killed.

Just watched it 2 days ago. 8/10.

1. Getting not enough from Jennifer Garner. No boobies allowed in Saudi.
2. Ideologism of Anti-terrorist.
3. Unexpected colonel Al-Ghazi playing an important role.
4. Guns(bazooka) & bullets everywhere. Fainted after the movie.
5. Let's not forget the bombard. Marbles as the weapon.

Cool movie. A must-watch to those action movie freak. Flesh~

just watched the Kingdom, overall, a very thought provoking and stays very close to the current real world issue typo film, some complains: the action sequence could have been more, the film is just one part explosions, 3 part investigation, 1 part final shoout out..., comments aside this is a very nice film!

This movie has nice technical touch, good direction and feel despite it's overwhelming US macho stuff. It is like Rambo but the baddies were Arab extremist this time. While Rambo is US fantasy of how US should respond to evils of Ho Chin Minh legacy in Vietnam or Russia's brutality in Afghanistan, this movie shows what US ought to do to deal with Wahabbist fundamental Islamic terrorism. But at least the bad guys were smart bunch, not typical idiotic goons that Hollywood love to portrayed in the past.

The gunfight is bit unrealistic in the sense that 4 people, trapped in middle of the street fighting against urban ambush, still prevails in the end. When I say ambush, it is the Somalian, Blackhawk Down style of ambush. It is like the good guys has super godly marksmanship and dodging level.

However I do approve the weapon of choice for some the good guys, using 7.62 mm based assault rifles which proven to be ballistic aspects more capable to penetrate the walls in shootout compared to 5.56 mm or 9 mm family.

Man... thoose RPG's at the end were nicely done. I brain were slow to process who shooting where. rclxub.gif

heh, dont mention the ambush. no one can survive that, its like shooting fish in the basket. but movies are movies

what i felt about the movie was that the ending was kinda rushed, its liek suddenly omfg he got nabbed lets go on a limited man mission to get him back. other then that, i think its horribly slow i dont mind non-action movies but meh. its like errr........there werent much happening through out.

The real Al-Ghazi is in jail now in US i think or is it afganistan.

The condolence names i think is directed to the US civillians who got beheaded by the terrorist in real life and the crew who died during filming. Cant confirm this

Just watched it this afternoon, was great! Enjoyed throughout the movie. Didn't think that the shootings were that unrealistic, maybe 'cause I just finished watching Shoot Em Up right before The Kingdom laugh.gif laugh.gif

The end of the movie dedicates it to Thomas Aguilar, Lance Gunnin and Nick Papac, all crew members who died during production. Thomas Aguilar (prop maker) died one week after being admitted to the hospital for stomach pain and subsequently discovering he had prostate cancer. Lance Gunnin (construction worker) was killed in a motorcycle accident on his way to the set and Nick Papac (prop master) died in an on-set collision between his Gator all-terrain vehicle and an SUV.

yeah, that was one of the best scenes in the movie. somehow, it felt very real. i mean, it really is something they would say~

As the famour saying goes, "There's Always Two Sides To A Story".

i beg to differ on this part... yes, although the American may hav won the battle in movie, but i think in the end, there actually were no winners nor losers. The Americans lost civis and they will lose more in the future; The Terrorists also lost soldiers and will lose more in the future.

its a never ending cycle of life

IMHO, i think this was one of the greatest movie of 2007. i loved it for both its action packed value and also the humane side to the story... but for me, the best thing abt the movie was its true meaning... which was hidden "between the lines".... and i think the line should read:

There's No Right Or Wrong; It's Only When We Choose A Side Do We Really See It
