Was browsing around shoppe and found HP Victus 16 variant with R5 8645HS, 16GB ram and rtx4050 dgpu for around 3.5k. only complaints I have are the thick bezels, V logo and empty space at the edge of the screen lid that makes it standout like an alien laptop: https://my.shp.ee/fQQiK3S

Otherwise, the specs seem like a steal for Ryzen and dgpu for general usage with some light gaming and video editing.

Seems a bit too good to be true. Any thoughts on this? It is a good deal? Any other models that compete with this one?

Most gaming (if not all) laptops are heavy. Unless you are willing to shell out more than RM7k for the slim ones.

Pretty good spec. You get what you paid for. Saw this on sale RM 3.1k few months ago. It was a steal.

Lazada sale happening last day today, can get it at ard RM 3.2k after discount / voucher. Not bad.

Why do you buy AMD Mobile chip if you want to game? I thought Intel is slightly better in gaming. Most people who buy gaming laptop arent concerned with power draw since it sucks when running on battery.

Just see and search for reviews to make sure the GPU variant is 80-100w version. Some like Gigabyte give you a RTX4060 which is better but they limit the power draw to 45w (or so) which result in poor performance which is even lower than a full power RTX4050.

That’s a pretty sweet deal for the specs! I’ve used a similar setup before and it handled gaming and video editing quite well for the price. The thick bezels and V logo do look a bit off, but if you can get past that, it seems like a great value. If you’re looking for alternatives, you might want to check out the ASUS TUF or Acer Nitro series; they offer similar specs and might have a different design.

From: nowhere

cons is not just design a bit ugly and a bit heavy

list of downsides:

victus 16 use 45 ntsc screen
hinge quite problematic (although havent see any case of broken hinge with V16-S series)
power in port at right side, hdmi also. may get in way with mouse place
3 fans outlets only versus tuf/nitro (except legion/loq which using newer design with all rear facing outlets)
only one m2 ssd slot
