my friend got a interview offer from a firm in UK only to be rescind after they found out her degree is not in IT/CS. She already have like 3 years exp under her belt already.
how prevalent is this kind of situation? from my understanding in malaysia many companies dont look at paper certification for development job.

When you want to hire people with relevant skill sets, redesign your question to work related and expect for immediate logical answer.

unfortunately, most UK does look at your degree qualification. Usually they will write this requirement clearly on the job spec before they make an offer to you.
To prevent this kind of situation, the screening call is where you ask this question.

Yeah, I've seen this happen before, especially with companies that have strict hiring policies. It’s frustrating because three years of solid experience should count for way more than a specific degree. When I was job hunting, I noticed some companies in the UK still prioritize qualifications over actual skills, whereas in Malaysia, most places I applied to cared more about what I could actually do. Hopefully, your friend can find a company that values her experience—it’s their loss, honestly.

Common in UK. In a different field, unable to practice because of lack of basic degree despite doing the work for 1 year.
