Hi guys, I have just noticed that my USB C ports are not working.

Charging the laptop works fine, but connecting USB drives and phones does not work.

It sometimes/intermittently works - and when it does, it seems to have a stable connection (eg I can watch a movie off a USB C thumbdrive). However, if I unplug the thumbdrive (or restart the computer), it can stop detecting any devices plugged in.

Im sure it's an issue with the laptop, as I can connect my phone (S24) and USB C thumbdrive to another laptop uneventfully.

Of note, the USB A ports seem to be working uneventfully. II can still connect my phone with a USB A to C cable.

Model 17Z90S-G.AA78A

I've tried the following:
-device manager >> USB C Controller >> disable "allow device to be put to sleep to save power"
-restart of all devices.
-cleaning ports
-reinstalling USB root hub and USB 3.2 controller from device manager.
-Rebooting computer and all devices.
-While turned off, Holding power button for 30-60seconds (power light blips once but unit doesnt power on. I wonder what this does...but read somewhere it might work). Then restarting the computer.
-enabling / disabling USB Offline charging in LG SmartAssistant.

I am at my wits end. Im starting to wonder if this is a hardware issue. This is really unexpected from a RM 9k laptop.

Update 26/6/24:

What worked was a factory reset of the system. I strongly suspect one of the driver updates caused issues with the USBC hub.

Now im only installing windows updates and not LG driver updates via the LG update manager. Seems to be ok with windows update recommended everything. Havent installed latest LG device drivers.

Last time I had a similar issue (not lg laptop). Toggling USB in the BIOS fixed it for me. Did you try that already?

Great idea.

I gave it a shot but it made no difference.

Interesting, usually USB unstable is hardware issue, but lucky it's driver issue.

I am 95% sure it is this driver update by the LG Update&Recovery that is causing the problem.

At least it's solved, some people never found the solution, end up buying new laptop. mega_shok.gif
