QUOTE(YoungMan @ Jun 8 2024, 08:25 PM) I believe we won't see 5g SA to be widely use in Malaysia yet. Maybe for industry use cases only. The most important thing now is for MCMC, NDB and telcos to work on improving indoor coverage. . T-Mobile USA has already launched 5G SA for general consumer use since 2020 for it's low to mid to high band 5G frequencies. It's low-band freq are 600MHz, 1900MHz and 2500MHz, which give good indoor coverage. ....... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-Mobile_US ....... On August 4, 2020, T-Mobile launched standalone (SA) mode across their national 5G network, becoming the first operator in the world to do so.[92] They also stated SA mode improved 5G coverage because a connection to a mid-band LTE cell was no longer required as it was in non-standalone mode (NSA). ... So, deployment of 5G SA for general consumer use depends on celcos' company policy. AT&T and Verizon should be following suit soon, ie deploy 5G SA for consumer use. https://www.lightreading.com/5g/115-mobile-...tworks-globally - 115 mobile operators investing in 5G standalone networks globally New report also confirms private mobile networks now seeing increased deployment of 5G SA across multiple sectors. #pressrelease - August 2, 2023 SHEFFIELD, U.K. – 115 operators in 52 countries and territories have invested in public 5G standalone networks, according to the latest GSA data. This equates to 21.4% of the 535 operators known to be investing in 5G licences, trials or deployments of any type. Of these, GSA data confirms that at least 36 operators in 25 countries and territories are now understood to have launched or deployed public 5G Standalone (SA) networks, two of which have only soft-launched their 5G SA networks. ... . QUOTE((lurkingaround @ Jun 8 2024, 07:46 PM) . Fyi, ....... https://www.fierce-network.com/tech/t-mobil...ndalone-network - T-Mobile launches nationwide 5G standalone network By Monica Alleven Aug 4, 2020 .... Devices will need a software upgrade to take advantage of the SA version; the first devices on the T-Mobile network to support SA are the OnePlus 8 and Samsung Galaxy S20 series; eventually the software will be made available for other 5G devices. There’s no word on when the first Apple SA-based iPhone will be available. .... = you need to buy high-end 5G smartphones in Malaysia because mid-end 5G smartphones may not receive the update for 5G-SA capability. ....... https://www.telecoms.com/wireless-networkin...ndalone-5g-core - DNB, TM and ZTE deliver Malaysia's first standalone 5G core - 18 Oct 2023= 5G-SA is already being tested in Malaysia. . https://www.lightreading.com/5g/four-malays...cond-5g-network - Four Malaysian ministries to develop action plan for the second 5G network Discussions around the action plan to implement the second 5G network started just as the five telco operators participating in the DNB are reportedly ready to sign their share subscription agreements by June 21. - 3 June 2024 . QUOTE(MyProLife @ Jun 8 2024, 08:16 PM) Yeah, 2020 phones with 5g just theoretically support NSA+SA. Phone updates might have been terminated for such models like s20 series after go pass 3-4 years support lifecycle. So possibly will need to be replaced eventually. Remember when very first batch of LTE devices from 2014-2017 were not able to take VoLte support as manufacturers ended software update support lifecycle, those eventually forced to be replaced due to 3g sunset . https://www.digital-nasional.com.my/interactive-map - Currently Supported Devices - 10 May 2024 AFAIK, iIf you buy one of the above DNB-approved 5G smartphone today, it's firmware is only 5G NSA capable and compatible with DNB's 5G technology, not yet 5G SA capable. If 2 or 3 years later, DNB1 or DNB2 launches 5G SA to replace 5G NSA, your then 2-3 years old 5G smartphone will need to be able to be updated/upgraded over-the-air by the OEM (eg by Samsung or Apple) for 5G SA capability. . Note also that every country often requires different 5G firmware for it's 5G smartphones, eg in general, you can't use a 5G smartphone bought in China, in Malaysia or in another country. .

best 5G coverage/battery power for smartphone is low and mid band same as 4G spectrum
waiting DNB 1 700mhz n28 turn on DNB 2 more likely using exist 4G spectrum i think n1 like sg
n78 is good for fixed wireless terminal @ wireless broadband

Not surprising for Singapore. Malaysia telcos do it by demand in urban areas, hence our 4g still sucks after more than 10 years. Just wait and see how gov will regulate the second network later.

So far for me...
4G is sufficient enough...
As for the question on coverage... Some my friends using 5G compatible devices saying coverage not maximum yet... Always dropped to 4G...
I don't really sure what's it's mean... I cannot test because no 5G compatible devices 😋

QUOTE(MyProLife @ Jun 7 2024, 10:14 PM) As for MRT, they got 5g line in MRT. But that's different story for LRT kelana Jaya line which smaller telco didn't bother to do at all as well. you got 5G signal in the understation tunnel & station?

QUOTE(luqman98x @ Jul 7 2024, 08:21 PM) Last time I hopped on MRT (early July), there is zero 5G signal underground It took more than 5 years since the 4G first launched in Malaysia to cover the Kelana Jaya LRT line. The MRT line was an exception because it was newly built back then so it equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Hopefully it wouldn't take so long for 5G, it is almost 3 years since 5G commercially available on YTL Yes
