Want to ask if there any prepaid broadband sim card from any telco available? Reason asking is that my family home.. we only go back every 2-3 months for about 3weeks. During that 3 weeks, parents want to watch Astro. So we will bring back our Astro unit to hook-up at family home during this period. Im subscribing to fixed broadband at the moment and paying monthly of RM 100++ even on those months that we are not staying. Seems abit waste for paying and not utilizing. Wonder if there's any prepaid broadband package like those sim card type, which we can reload to have internet access for Astro to run during that few weeks.

If your family home has good 5g coverage, just subscribe Yes FT 5g prepaid. Otherwise, just get a prepaid sim from any other telco and subs to their weekly or monthly internet.

prepaid broadband sim are like almost non-existent already since the 3G era.
there are 2 options that i can think of for you but you need to first confirm that your family home area has strong and stable 5G network. If no 5G yet, 4G is also okay but cannot guarantee the speed during peak hours due to congestion.
1. Cancel your fixed broadband (if contract over) and either subscribe U Home 5G or Yes 5G broadband plan. Both are cheaper than your monthly RM100+ fixed broadband.
2. The less practical way, mobile hotspot. Need to have "unlimited quota and hotspot" though because streaming needs a lot of data. If only buy 30GB confirm finish in 1 day.

QUOTE(junecheah @ Jun 7 2024, 11:33 AM) those mobile prepaid sim, is the speed sufficient for Astro? Speed is sufficient as long you don't subs those with 3mbps 6mbps speed capped. If you are gonna subs other than Yes FT 5G, look for plans with 5g and have higher quota. It maybe slightly expensive, but not much choice since you want a prepaid. Otherwise like the above post suggested, replace fibre broadband with 5g broadband. This post has been edited by YoungMan: Jun 7 2024, 03:10 PM

Yes, there are prepaid broadband SIM cards available from several telcos like Digi, Maxis, and U Mobile. They offer data plans that you can reload as needed. It’s a good way to save money since you only pay for the months you’re actually using it. Check their websites for the best rates and coverage in your area.

Your member got someone still using umobile gx series prepaid? As i research GX43 is most suitable for hotspot as it don't have hard FUP throttling except for P2P. However this package not available on newest 5g prepaid sim

change your second home from a fiber package to a wireless broadband. Wireless broadband can be a backup internet if your main home fiber is down.

I have 3 homes, originally 2 with Unifi and 1 with Time. Cancelled all 3 and got U Home 5G. RM68 before tax for 1000gb. If you sign for 2 years, they give you a free 5G router too. 1000gb is more than sufficient unless you torrent or download a lot of console games, in which case you can top up another 1000gb for RM30. I've also tried the Yes 5G unlimited FUP for RM58 but when it drops to 4G, you virtually have no internet, so just stick to Umobile.

I think it only works if you do not have CCTV and home automation at other houses.
