Can I build this awning (protrude a lil from gate)

what is the law regarding building awning? wanna build an awning to reach the gate area (probably protrude by 1 or 2 feet).

Suggestion/idea only:
My neighbor extend around 8ft, My sister around 10ft. How they dry clothes? They move the whole clothes hanger to dry outside. sometimes wet and collect dust. |
