Like a fellow fan pointed out, with more game time, can Kelleher be as good as Ali eventually? Jaros in my opinion can definitely step up to number two. And who can guarantee Giorgi can hit the ground running and adapt which Kelleher and Jaros already have no problem?
Anyway my point was about prioritisation. If we can afford to spend 95mil on a spinning winger then I have no problem with signing a high potential GK for next season. But if you compare: Kelleher or Ali at GK, and Tsimikas/Robbo at LB, which one is more desperate for fix?
I think the purchase of Giorgi was mainly due to the club was aware that Kelleher wanted to leave to be No 1 elsewhere. Kelleher has made it known for quite some time now. It's still early days to consider Jaros a proven number 2 and with Giorgi hitting form in Euro, the club made the decision to purchase first before other clubs are interested as well.
Given Giorgi's appearances in top league as compared to Jaros' appearances in a lower standard league, it's reasonable to think that Giorgi will serve a better deputy. I think the idea is to have him compete with Alisson and slowly phasing the latter out (due to age/injuries and other factors).
Plus, let's not forget Alisson did receive offer from middle east in summer. All these factors played a role in club deciding to purchase Giorgi.
As for left back position, Robbo is only 30 actually. He can play at least another 2 years but it is not undeniable that he has been struggling of late. I do agree that we need a new left back sooner or later but after we get a No. 6?
