My AC guy is recommending an Inverter AC to me. My wife says I should get it rather than regular AC. I asked her what’s the difference with an inverter AC, just to test her. She had no idea of course.
So I researched it and find that only the external unit fan rate is varied/reduced according to the room hitting your desired preset temperature. This doesn’t seem to be a big diff to me. The reduction in electricity consumption can’t be much, and it could take a long time to save the extra cost paid for that type of model.
Anybody out there able to convince me im wrong? Got any costings to prove the extra expense is worth it?

Depends on your usage.
Inverter AC only good if your usage is more than 8 hours. then only got energy saving. otherwise not much.

Inverter also spoil easier and is more expensive to repair.

For me I'll stick with normal AC

More on comfort to me, the temperature fluctuation is much lesser + there is no annoying A/C compressor kick in sound.

It depends on whether you are an eskimo or 27C type of user.

Eskimo freezer no need inverter.

When target temp 27C is easily achievable and Imax of compressor starting happen more often then inverter is best.

Simple as that. No need crack head.

Generally inverter AC power saving is about 40 to 50 % easily. compare to non inverter .
Depends on a few factor.s

The long term temp is more stable / less fluctuations.
Some people are sensitive for this for a good sleep

Factors for selection .
What temp do you usually set . Around 25 C is optimal
Room size .AC hp , And good room seal etc
Use longer hours give more savings

Inverter AC user here. Mine is already 5 years old. So far, it has only been serviced 3 times. No problems yet but I used an internet-based smart remote to control it. The remote is tado and I got it many years ago from a Kickstarter campaign. The UI is a bit clunky but it works as intended.

Define "Better". What is your most important criteria for an a/cond? Could be anything: Electricity savings, low purchase cost, easy to service, availability of spare parts, fast cooling, etc, etc, etc.

For example, some people want a car that looks tough, don't care that it is hard to park. Some want a car to show off, don't care that no money in the pocket. Some want a car that seats 7, well, that will handle like a barge.

So unless you can come up with what is important to you, this is never ending to try and "convince" you. We'll say an a/cond is something, but you will come up with a "but".
"This is the cheapest a/cond to buy".
"Oh, but it is made in China I don't like"

Non-inverter = On at 100% -> Off -> On at 100% -> Off
Inverter = Constant On at 50% capacity

The act of turning on constantly in non-inverter takes a large current (not efficient)

inverter 26-27Celcius is the best. TNB bill cheap
if you calculate non-inverter, sekejap on sekejap off(kononnya nak jimat) at 16-22Celcius temp,
perhaps on 24/7 using inverter at 26-27 more saving.

you will see the difference when the AC is turned on for long hours e.g. 10 hours or more

Use non inverter AC, set at 25-26, still energy savings

Until the inverter board spoil, then the cost of repair is almost the same as buying a new non-inverter AC

Also, inverter saves more electricity because it is less cold.

So to get the same coldness for 1HP non inverter, you need 1.5HP inverter

Below 1 and 1.5hp If ts is 27c guy get inverter, if ts is 21c guy non inverter will do ,Malaysia tiapx2 hari pun 40c feelling 21c room at night unachievable below 1.5hp especially evening sun blasting your wall and room if your room sunrise and dawn are terbalik

TS also can consider do it over configuration just get 2hp and above go for inverter definitely can reach your desire temp 21c and below as long your house with 3 phase electrical easily to distribute if you consider install more than 3 2hp and above

If monthly tnb bill already paying RM 700+ and above inverter or not inverter to me doesn't matter anymore just yolo.
