What's next for FAM after FIFA's judgement? A fresh start will be a good start
THE verdict is out. FIFA have spoken. The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) have lost their appeal.
To be blunt, it was dismissed, and the FIFA appeals committee have put it in black and white.
What happens next will tell us everything about the kind of football nation we truly are.
We can choose to drag this through endless statements, legal jargon, and half-hearted apologies or we can do what we have never done properly before: take responsibility.
Because let's be honest - this is not just about seven players, a few documents, or one appeal gone wrong. This is about the culture that allowed it to happen.
Every time something goes wrong, we get committees, investigations, or task forces, all dressed up as solutions but designed to do one thing - buy time.
To date, a number of questions remain unanswered - who is the agent behind this? Allowances were given to these players, what was the expenditure like? This whole legal scenario, will it be borne from the government allocation? In the past, we were thorough with our applications but why the slip this time around?
And time, as we have learned, never fixes rot. It only hides it.
