Thanks, mmyy. The Norway trip was decided within 3 weeks when Qatar Airways launched their KUL-DXB-OSL service. They offered return tix of just RM1200 all in, to Oslo, so I quickly grabbed a pair and worked out the itinerary myself. We knew we had to to do the famous Bergen Railway, the awesome fjords, the World Heritage Site at Bergen, and of course go to Arctic Tromso to chase the Aurora Borealis. Norway is expensive (makes Japan look cheap biggrin.gif), so we did our best to save costs. I never keep track of expenses of my trips, since to me, it takes away the pleasure of traveling. So I'm not sure how much we actually spent, but you can google relevant info for a feel.

RM1200 return! shocking.gif Crazy deal you got there!

Yeah money will take away some of the fun, I am planning my Japan trip currently and everytime I calculate the costs a little of me died inside haha. Will still try to make the most out of my budget trip nevertheless. smile.gif

Money changer rate today is around 38.95
On Sat it was 39.4

Added on February 20, 2012, 8:39 pm(Start 8am) Asakusa Kannon Temple > Ueno Park > Akiba > Odaiba.

Do you think it's okay to do the above in 1 day? Latest to reach Odaiba maybe 4pm because I want to make it to Fuji TV. Anyone know what time's their last tour? Just know they close at 6pm. :\

Is 2 hours each sufficient for the temple and park?

Should put Akiba at last.....because Akiba enough you walk one whole day....if put akiba first you sure miss the time to Fuji TV.

BTW..Fuji TV tour closed at 8pm....last Q for the tour are 7.30pm.

Akiba at night are pretty ....neon light everywhere

Eh their website says: The sphere is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Monday.

Khaosan Ninja should be a good choice, but you have to book early coz of limited rooms - double rooms sell out very fast so better plan early.

now we are just pending about the hotel. cos hotel info needed to apply visa.

but any recommendation? cos so many hotels showing in agoda..
*
Actually do we really need to provide hotel info to apply visa?

When I check their website, they only state:

1. Original passport
2. One (1) visa application form
3. One (1) photo (4.5cm x 4.5cm) with white background
4. Itinerary in Japan
5. Employment certificate
6. Personal savings, latest current account statement, fixed deposit, Tabung Haji or Amanah Saham Berhad (ASB)
7. Copy of marriage certificate (spouse) or birth certificate (children) to show proof of relationship between the main applicant and the person(s) accompanying

Unless they ask you for more documents, it's not compulsory to provide right? Can just write down tentative hotel in the itinerary form. Confusing.. since I hear many people printing out airtix and hotel booking info and submit together. Any ideas on this? Or no matter what they say on website, they will still ask you to give?

End of May =)

QUOTE(yipster)
hi guys..i need a little help here. i am going japan during may and i will be taking the air asia flight. the flight reaching to japan is around 10:30-11. my main plan was to rough it out in the airport till around 5-6am for the earliest train to town as i was afraid i cant make it in time to ride the last train and prefer not to pay for the extra charges for midnight taxi. the question is, can i rough it out overnight in the airport? as far as i know, some airports doesnt allow that. anyone tried? thanks a million in advance!

11 of you overnight at the airport? XD

Well my plan is same as yours, gonna overnight at airport - no choice, it's late I don't want to rush and can save 1 night hotel stay! Why not eh. My plan is to take the 1st train to hotel, leave bags (can't check-in yet it's at 3pm), then straight to Tsukiji fish market - coz that's the only place worth to go so early in the morning. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(dasoulz)
not too sure about Haneda but for Kansai airpot, they have some lounge that allows u to rest/shower/internet for a fee. i have lost the leaflet on that but im sure you can get it online. hope this info is helpful if u r going in through Kansai

Same in Haneda, there's a nap room and shower room which you can pay to use, think they charge by hour or something - check the official website the rates are stated there.

Haha need so detailed? I'm only planning to makan breakfast there, auction is too early as everyone said. What to do.. My first trip to Tokyo, just an overview tour. XD

@Ah WanG - I've booked through Hostelbookers before they only charge 10% deposit. This time I tried booking.com which charge nothing - only required to pay when you check-in.

The weather is seriously giving me headache. I check newpspaper everyday, seems like Tokyo around 11 - 26 Celcius. Then suddenly yesterday max 20 only. Very big difference!

Dunno how to pack for next week's trip. Night will be below 20 Celcius? :s

quite incredible you guys got it so cheap, I got it at RM900++ per pax on return tix on Airasia promotion yesterday midnight.....I'm going to tokyo on April next year, sakura blossom period  icon_idea.gif  icon_idea.gif

May I know which period you guys booked the ticket? ur ticket is cheap..

Question here, I'm going for 9D8N...except for Tokyo whereby I will spend at least 2 days at disneyland & disneysea, I planning to go Kansai region (OSAKA, KYOTO), is it enough or should I just focus on Chubu & Kanto region??? sweat.gif
*
I bought mine Feb this year, when they announced that they have daily flights to Tokyo now. smile.gif
Current promo very limited, I think most cheap tickets were gone within the first night.

I'm going 8D6N, one day in Disneysea.. the rest in city + Yokohama + Hakone. Should have taken 10 nights minimum - sad that I don't have enough days to slot in Kamakura, Nikko, Kawagoe, Disneyland as well. Even for city areas seems like I have limited time to spend in each place e.g. Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku, Akihabara, Ginza, Roppongi, Asakusa. I myself thought 6N was too much, until I started doing research and I have so many places I wanna go!

My advise - look up all that Tokyo has to offer then see if you have enough time left to slot in Kansai. For me, best to just stick to Tokyo and go on another trip next time focus on Kansai alone. Well, it also depends on your own interest. biggrin.gif

Emm...good advice given! thx bro.....I never tot of Chubu & Kanto region got so many places, may leave it next trip to travel to Kansai region, anyways when is your travelling period?
*
I'm going next week.
Planning to visit Kansai in 2014, after USS opens its Harry Potter attraction first! haha

@Human Nature : Just a tip for you, before you choose between Disneysea or Disneyland, check the rides closure dates, if too many rides are closed for one theme park you might as well choose the other one so your money spent will be worth it! Also some days they close at 6pm, pick the date where they close at 10pm! lol

So far my itinerary
Day 1: Tsukiji, Ginza, Imperial Palace (touch-n-go), Shinjuku (Kabukicho)
Day 2: Asakusa Sensoji area, Akihabara, Odaiba
Day 3: Yokohama (Yamate, Harbor View Park, Chinatown, Yamashita Park, Osanbashi Pier, Minato Mirai)
Day 4: Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, Shibuya (+Tokyo Tower+Roppongi if possible)
Day 5: Disneysea
Day 6: Hakone
Day 7: Shinjuku (metropolitan area)

I skipped: Ueno Park & zoo, Ikebukuro, Roppongi (most probably), Kamakura, Nikko, Kawagoe, Tokyo Dome, Disneyland, Studio Ghibli, some notable museums, aquarium, stadiums, ramen museum in Yokohama, lots of nice parks, and a free 2-hours tour of Imperial Palace

why dont u put together shinjuku, harajuku and shibuya. they are not very far.
*
Hey I'm expecting to spend a lot of time in Meiji+Harajuku+Shibuya, so I don't want to cut short my time and rush to Shinjuku as well. Shinjuku seems like a great place to hang out all day too, different things to see day and night. =)

@RegentCid: Yeah rain sucks! But I'm hoping on my good luck. So far the weather predicts for next week are quite okay for me, with just 1 day of rain (still waiting for another 2 days prediction which are not out yet). Well just hope it won't affect my trip too much. *prays*

@Human Nature: Yeah Sunday is definitely best for Akiba or Harajuku/Shibuya. Your pick.

Hmm for me Odaiba would be a day. so many things to see.. well for me that is. didn't get to explore Palette town fully and also didn't manage to go Lalaport. I took the himiko from Asakusa to Odaiba. Not sure if you can slot akihabara in between though. Just make sure to visit DiverCity in Odaiba smile.gif
*
Haha I've read up on Odaiba, my main reason to go there is tour inside Fuji TV and snap pic with Gundam and of course the bridge. Not too interested in shopping or games. Well, my plan is not final. I'll have to modify as I go along. Who knows I ended up liking one place too much and have to slot the rest of the itinerary somewhere else. XD

I arrived Haneda at 10.40pm, 20 mins earlier than scheduled. Runway is connected to terminal so no need to take bus. Well I took my own sweet time being the last one out, going washroom take pics of the toilet (hahah) refill water take more random pics - since I had decided to overnight at airport - but ended up it was 1130pm when I'm done with everything. Super fast, want to delay longer also cannot. lol

We were the last plane for the night I think.
