wow, you're lucky! rclxms.gif  Enjoy your trip in Japan. Which state in Japan you are going to?

needs to be in tokyo. the contest, whether fortunately or unfortunately, doesn't really come 'free,' need to then write about it with videos, photos, etc, for the sponsor. but expenses paid so no complain smile.gif

Guys, I'm starting to plan my Tokyo trip. Will be flying the midnight/overnight flight from MAS, so 5D4N. Staying at Sunshine city Prince, somewhere in Toshima.

So far I'm definitely planning to go to disneyland (1 full day ... right?) transport + ticket for two about 15,000¥ without food.

Then also looking at Shinjuku. Shinjuku Gyoen Park seems interesting (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinjuku_Gyoen), thinking of going in the morning, spending two hours or so, then the rest of the day til night time explore Shinjuku area. 10 hours in Shinjuku too much? too tiring?

(to be updated for the remainder 2.5 days)

Hihi guys, help me critique my itinerary plan please? 5d4n in Tokyo:

Day1 (arrive narita 6.45, reach hotel 8.00):
Shinjuku, Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, Shibuya
Day2
Tsujiki Fish Market, Nihonbashi, Ginza, Tokyo Dome City, Imperial Palace East Gardens, Akihabara
Day3
Ameyoko, Sensoji Temple, Asakusa, Sengakuji Temple, Shinagawa, Tokyo Tower, Roppongi, Ikebukuro
Day4
Disneyland or Disneysea (which one better?)
Day5:
Can't really do anything cos 1:30pm flight so have to leave quite early

Too packed/Don't make sense cos things all over the place? I stay at a hotel in Toshima. Also ... feel like going to just one temple OK liao, which one to choose?

you go to Shinjuku first, basically Shinjuku is a nightspot, nothing much during daytime, what you should do is go to Meiji jinggu first, then walk down to Harajuku, have breakkie or brunch, recce Harajuku and Ura-Hara, from Harajuku walk to Shibuya, where you will pass by the Burberry Blue Label Store (used to be in Ginza but moved). At Shibuya, guess you want to go to those 109 (there's two 109 there) then at night go to Shinjuku.

Thanks bro.

The rest, still very pack,,,you need to slow down a bit and take down the sights, interact with the people, explore, sometimes being too rigid aint fun at all. I myself like to visit the suburds.

Yeah, after going onto google maps and planning out the train routes, decided to cut off some things. Anyway I think the planning is just "plan" ba. Reach there that time then we'll fit in what we can fit in, whatever we can't then next trip.

back from tokyo! holy crap you guys weren't kidding when you said to get ready for tons of walking. I think in this 5 days I walked more than I normally walk in an entire year!

highlights of the trip were erm ... public bath in LaQua ... not used to being in a room full of naked guys with their ahem-ahems swinging left right when they walk. and some more with ladies in the same room wtf? hmm.gif

oh and the omakase set in dai sushi and daiwa sushi in tsukiji fish market (i went twice lols). too bad couldn't make it to the auction, cos public transport not early enough sad.gif

juz to share with u, there's a Disney Store in Shibuya where u can get the Disneyland / DisneySea ticket. If u happen to come across it might as well grab ur ticket there, so u can save up precious time of go lining up at the ticket booth there.

I did a reservation online, can go to the ticketing office inside Ikspiari shopping mall, no queue there. Disadvantage I guess is that you have to reserve a couple days in advance, and only for fixed-date tickets.

Anyway at those "discount ticket" stores I saw a couple of them selling disney one day passes for 6-6.2k yen (discount couple hundred) ... didn't go for it though cos I scared my reservation they will charge my CC even if i no-show.

Spending went WAY over budget. 142k yen on everything (2 people) doh.gif ... some more my ATM card wouldn't work at any of the local ATMs (not even the seven-eleven ones), had to resort to drawing cash advance from credit card rclxub.gif

We really should merge both Japan threads. End up people (myself included) double post in both threads cos dunno which one to post in.

@Riggo I did some research on this before going on my holiday. Technically M'sians don't need visa to enter Japan for short holiday. But at the immigration, you will be taken to a room for interview/questioning. Here you need to have all your documents available to prove that you don't intend to overstay; if the authorities suspect anything they will deny you entry and you're on the next flight back to KL.

Best is to just apply visa lah, it's free and very efficient one. Go there, drop off documents, come back 3 days later to pick up - done! Got nice visa sticker in your passport also.

London subway is easy compare to Tokyo

^
Having been a tourist in both cities, I agree that London is WAY easier than Tokyo. Cid you live in Japan cannot make unbiased comparison liao tongue.gif just compare the number of lines & stations in both systems also can see the huge difference liao.

I'm in the midst of planning a trip to Tokyo next February, so if you guys who've been to Japan would please share the cost of the trip and how long you stayed there that would be awesome.

I spent about 120k yen for 5 days in Tokyo for food, shopping, transport, etc (not including flight and accomodation).

Was 5 days enough for you to "experience" Tokyo or would you recommend getting out of the city a bit?

It depends what is your definition of "experience." If you want comprehensive, you'll be spending 2 days just on disneysea/disneyland alone.

embassy japan will approve/reject on da spot?

Yes if your documents not complete. If your documents are complete, there is a few days lag. For my case applying in Singapore embassy it was like 2 or 3 days (forgotten liao), but definitely not same day.

awww.. which means is mission impossibru for me then sad.gif

My colleage purposely stay 1 night in hotel near tsukiji just to see the auction ... but I don't know if that's a good idea cos you waste few hours moving hotels. Unless your entire time in tokyo stay near tsukiji? My last year trip i stay in ikebukuro, leave hotel 5am by the time reach the market also too late for the auction. But anyway me & my fiancee still go twice to eat sushi dai and daiwa sushi lol.

Going to Tokyo in April, would like to ask if iPhone 3GS will work at Japan by turning on the 3G settings? or data roaming by using our local prepaid like Digi/Hotlink?

Data roaming in any country is f**king expensive, unless you sign up for daily rates like Maxis' DataRoam Value at rm38/day (which depending on your bank account, may or may not be still f**king expensive).

Sorry my mistake, I'm not interested in data roaming more of for voice calls/sms purpose only to call home daily since I'll have wifi in friends' house.
I meant, I need to turn on the 3G settings or something?

Go holiday also must report back to daddy every day? hmm.gif

IMO you could go to the Maxis centre and ask about activating International roaming for your prepaid line. The website says must deposit rm300 but when I went to activate mine, they said no need deposit.

On iPhone, roaming is automatic without needing to set up anything special. However make sure that Data Roaming is "OFF" in the settings otherwise you will facepalm when you get your next bill icon_idea.gif

My plan for first day at tokyo will be shibuya ->Shinjuku -> Odaiba
So should i take train from shinjuku to shimbashi and take Yurikamome from shimbashi .. at which station i should stop if i want to visit fuji tv, rainbow bridge and palette town?

these three places in one day seems super rush unless you planning to just touch & go only.
