Skytree has elevator glitch on first day

By HIROKO NAKATA
Staff writer
Despite cold and rainy springtime weather Tuesday, Tokyo Skytree attracted thousands of people to the new landmark as the world's tallest tower opened to the public.

But the first day didn't go off without a hitch. High winds forced two elevators to halt at around 6 p.m., stranding visitors in an observatory.

When I took the last bus without late night charges (I think 12am (?)...I still see ques at the back of me waiting for 12:15 & for sure more thereafter..Only problem ..fare is almost double & also limited stn as you can check here..

Horidome villa in nihonbashi. Just 800m walking distance from t-cat Tokyo and ~1.5km from Tokyo stn. There are 3 mrt stn within 400m from this hotel. Book via agoda but I think hotel.com cheaper

Horidome villa is the last hotel tat i stayed during my trip to japan... i feel itz the most inconvenient hotel for me... coz i m carrying 2 big luggage (me n my gf) to go to the hotel... from the subway to the hotel, itz consider near if u r not carrying anything... but if u r carrying heavy luggage with u, u will not enjoy it as u need to carry it up n down the stair from the subway...

personally i love Oak Hotel, very friendly and helpful staffs, wifi available in the room, near to Ueno with lots of things to eat... around 100m from Inaricho station... n u no need to drag the luggage up the stairs as escalator is available at tat station...

*
That's why, I never carry any luggages anymore esp main most of transport is via train/MRTs.. Lotsa bad experience.. furthermore, using luggage is heavy.. U can't buy lotsa things if going using luggages..due to AAX limitation.
I brought 2 backpacks of 50 & 55L wth me and bot also check-in and still below 15Kg even after all the shoppings in Tokyo rclxms.gif ..Carrying ~ 5-6Kg each of the backpack and walking ~ 400-1km is sap-sap water haha.. luggages.. as u said up & down those subways without excallator really a killing hehe

Reason why we choose Horidome bcos of the T-Cat mah... esp AAX reaching near midnite brows.gif ..Thereafter, Decided not to switch any hotel liao... Can stay OK-dy although bed super small.

From the website, There is no real route schedul just examples of the departing & arrival timing.. If you go even lower, u can see even one example given the departure time at 4am... The top para already asked you not to worry haha.. Only problem is the "extra" you need to top up.. That xtra probably OK if you go 1 or 1 ppl.. but after 3-4 ppl, I think taking taxi cheaper

Sure fail???? Thought usually can clear customs and baggage by 11.30p.m still got half an hour right??? Don't think I have choice if fail...taxi will cost 6-8k yen I suppose but since staying in Kawasaki area not Tokyo cannot take Limousine Bus.
*
Hmnnn Kawasaki is just West of Haneda airport. I don't think taking a taxi there will cost a bomb since the furthest distance from Haneda is just ~ 10km compare to ~ 25-35km if towards Tokyo

Thanks for the tips. May I know what time you reached Haneda via AAX at night and how long did it take to clear theit customs, etc. Really headache with the late arrival, prefer not to stay in one hotel because of the proximity and then change another hotel the next day. (hate waking up early to pack, travel, check in (time difference between check in and out) and unpacking again.
*
Depending on how fast you can reach the immigration desk & thereafter custom 1st compare to others. Imagine that plane is carrying 300+ If you dun rush to the front and take the 1st bus out of the runway (Yes AAX is parked far away from terminal), you will be joining the long que. you need to rush straight to the counter ASAP..and hope not many other flights during the same time.

I rushed to the 1st bus & once reaching the immigration counter, we are the only flight there & I was ~ 5-6 in the que. wait for ~ 5min for my checked-in luggages (fast compare to LCCT!) Custom only check on those returning Japanese but not M'sian so I just quickly walk to the arrival info counter and ask for the limousine bus & grab the last "Day time" rate ticket to T-Cat.. rclxms.gif

Added on June 5, 2012, 10:34 amThe whole journey from the plane parking area ~ 1km away from the terminal & also clearance & buying the last ticket ~ 30min only... but if you dun rush.. you probably take >45min

Uh, you can reach all major shopping areas by train, or rather you can reach anywhere in Japan by train. Well typical shopping places like Harajuku, Shibuya, Shinjuku, Ginza.. depends what you're looking for. I personally liked Harajuku.
*
Jpop fan spotted biggrin.gif Only teenagers & those crazy of Jpops & Kpops love Harujuku biggrin.gif

Nahhhh I liked it there coz of Kiddyland and Daiso, plus I guess things are generally cheaper there and more things to see even if I've got no money to buy. A lot random zhapbelang stuff. I'm not a fashion/brands person, so Shibuya/Ginza is out. tongue.gif
*
Haha... I bought lotsa 110 yen goods there.. for sure cheaper than Daiso M'sia liao rclxms.gif .. Further on the far end, The Oriental Bazaar having cheaper stuff rather than those overpriced souvenirs in Asakusa Market
