Sorry 19k yen is the trip to Kyoto with Shinkansen n hotel included. Not RM he he.

Is one night side trip to Kyoto worth it? Or should I just do a nikko day trip and spend more time in Tokyo ?
*
i think 1 day is not enough for me in kyoto because kyoto really beautiful place. old japan city. temple, castle...i spend 2 days there.

how do you guys find yourself by  traveling alone to tokyo/osaka? is the map sufficient enough to get around?
*
i went there alone. u need subway map (u can buy it for more detail and big map or get from tourist info at umeda station).

u need to do more homework. if this is the 1st time u travel alone, u need to go to tourist info and get all the information.

or u can get info before u travel there by using internet.

and u must have a thick face to ask people around.

If you look at the airline thematic visa database, Japanese visa is "strongly recommended' but not needed for malaysians. I actually entered Japan "without' a visa last Aug. I was taken into a room and asked to fill out a stack of forms titled "special enquiry". They gave me a 14 days permit after that.
*
better to get visa as they "strongly recommended". dont take risk

Their visa is so troublesome. They insisted that I produced a confirmed air ticket and confirmed hotel bookings as if they are going to refund me everything if the application is not sucessful. I insisted that I had none and they asked to write out everything in detail flight no time , hotel address, contact etc. I just took out my Iphone and find a few hotels from tripadvisor to put in.
*
it didnt happen to me before. only write it in itenary, but of course i already book everything. but they never ask for it. so i didnt give to them

I'm going next week.
Planning to visit Kansai in 2014, after USS opens its Harry Potter attraction first! haha
@Human Nature : Just a tip for you, before you choose between Disneysea or Disneyland, check the rides closure dates, if too many rides are closed for one theme park you might as well choose the other one so your money spent will be worth it! Also some days they close at 6pm, pick the date where they close at 10pm! lol
So far my itinerary
Day 1: Tsukiji, Ginza, Imperial Palace (touch-n-go), Shinjuku (Kabukicho)
Day 2: Asakusa Sensoji area, Akihabara, Odaiba
Day 3: Yokohama (Yamate, Harbor View Park, Chinatown, Yamashita Park, Osanbashi Pier, Minato Mirai)
Day 4: Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, Shibuya (+Tokyo Tower+Roppongi if possible)
Day 5: Disneysea
Day 6: Hakone
Day 7: Shinjuku (metropolitan area)
I skipped: Ueno Park & zoo, Ikebukuro, Roppongi (most probably), Kamakura, Nikko, Kawagoe, Tokyo Dome, Disneyland, Studio Ghibli, some notable museums, aquarium, stadiums, ramen museum in Yokohama, lots of nice parks, and a free 2-hours tour of Imperial Palace
*
why dont u put together shinjuku, harajuku and shibuya. they are not very far.
