I was researching on whether if there are legit justifications for putting on EV donuts on an EV against the less pricier non EV tyres.

Read that EV tyres are designed to reduce rolling resistance, higher load and carries internal padding to reduce tyre noise. This will ensure better range, obviously continuous silence and able to withstand the weight of an EV.

Anyone attempted their EVs with non EV tyres? Care to share experience from a range, wear durability and NVH perspective?

P/s not sure if there is already a thread on this topic. If there is, do point me to that thread and admin can close this. Danke!

I just bought Hankook Ventus prime 4 which is EV certified. got the EV logo printed on the tyres. price wise is cheap. rm280 perdonut for 215/45/17

but I dont use EV tho. lol

Well, if the price is right, don't see a reason for not going with them. How are the donuts? Good?

EV tyres is made to withstand the extra weight of the car due to the batteries. It's a safety point here as well... normal tyre might not be able to cope with those rated weight and speed.

Agree. But I was reviewing some tyre load and speed rating, there is no difference. Hence, my query.

I try not to go with Michelins as my experience is that the donuts wear pretty fast given the softer compounds. Been using continentals and bridgestones for quite a while now. If not wrong, continentals have yet to intro EV tyres in Malaysia while bridgestone, I have shared my experience.

running Continental Eco Contact on my EV. its not EV tyre but its said to be fit for EV.

find it abit noisy. too bad e primacy dont have my size

I am assuming that the continentals are not your first set of tyres on the EV. Apart from the noise, any material impact on the range?

coming from potenza ree04 I can say an upgrade in comfort and noise level. Dry grip is also excellent, havent tried on wet as currenly drought at my place. road feedback is less vs potenza but since my current priority is comfor so I'm prety much satisfied with the price that I paid.

Good on you buddy. Always a great feeling money well spent.

It is quite confusing to public. There are 2 kind of EV tire in the market, Pure EV tire and EV compatible tire. Pure EV tire is completely new tech and for EV car exclusively. While EV compatible mean the tire can use in ICE or EV.

Pure EV tire stand advantage of almost all aspects compare to EV compatible tire, except the price.

Exactly. I am trying to determine if the difference between the 2 is worth the additional moo. My checks thus far seems to show that it is down to the range i.e. EV tyres may be giving higher range vs a non EV tyre with the same load and speed ratings.

Hahaha.. Tires manufacturer are damn well happy if you drive EV...

https://www.autoremarketing.com/ar/analysis...-d-power-finds/

The reality is EV tires naturally wear faster due to greater vehicle weight and higher torque.

https://www.automotivedive.com/news/jd-powe...ehicles/711590/

EV tires can wear up to 20% faster than tires on internal-combustion cars and trucks, according to tire supplier Michelin. That’s mainly because EVs are significantly heavier and produce more wheel torque than traditional vehicles.

In addition, aggressive tire wear may worsen an EV’s environmental impact by increasing the amount of polluting tire particulate released.

You save money on no fuel, oil maintenance, but spend more on others like tires. LPPL

Agree to the extent of making more profits. I have seen EVs with more gentle owners using EV tyres up to 50k to 60k km on the same set. That is quite comparable to the conventional tyres on ICE cars. I guess the higher price for EV tyres will stabilize some time in the future as it moves beyond the nascent stage and economies of scale kicks in. We are already observing more tyre brands getting into this.

Link to an interesting youtube video. Seems to point towards the fact that it is not necessary to get EV tyres as some UHP tyres with similar load and speed ratings will do the job.

**Don't know how to embed a video hence just the link.**
